Few marques have managed to capture the essence of bespoke grand touring quite like Jensen.

Founded in the late 1930s by brothers Alan and Richard Jensen, the company began life in the West Midlands of England, initially producing custom bodies for other manufacturers such as Ford, Austin, and even Volvo.

It wasn’t long, however, before the Jensens turned their attention to creating cars of their own, vehicles that would blend performance, style, and luxury in equal measure.

Yet the true legend began in 1966, when the Interceptor arrived.

The Jensen Interceptor was styled by Carrozzeria Touring of Italy, it was handbuilt in the West Midlands between 1966 and 1976.

Power came from a 6276cc Chrysler V8, driving through either a four-speed manual or three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission to an LSD Salisbury rear axle.

Specification included electric windows, reclining seats, a wood-rim steering wheel, radio with twin speakers, an electric clock, and reversing lights.

MkI production ran for three years before being supplanted by the MkII.

The MkIII followed two years later and was still in manufacture when Jensen entered receivership during 1976, by which time some 6,408 Interceptors had been built.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

Delivered new to the Netherlands on July 26th, 1971, this exceptional example has remained in the Netherlands throughout its entire life, a rare and notable provenance that adds to its appeal and authenticity.

This specific example is one of just 1,128 Mark II models ever produced, making it a particularly rare find today.

Finished in Gunmetal Grey, with the interior trimmed in a beautiful mulberry red leather.

As a Mark II, this model benefits from updates over the Mark I, including improved interior ergonomics and subtle styling enhancements, making it one of the most balanced and appealing variants of the Interceptor line.

From new, this Interceptor was well specified with a range of desirable factory options and accessories, including: metallic paint, power steering, air conditioning, electric windows, sports steering wheel, sports seats, full leather interior, and an AM/FM radio.

These features, combined with the car’s elegant Touring design and V8 performance, make it a particularly attractive example of the model.

This Jensen Interceptor Mark II is offered with its restoration dossier and original workshop manual, providing valuable documentation of its history and care.

The previous owner resided in Bergen, the Netherlands, where the car was maintained to a high standard.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The car presents beautifully, with straight panels, fine chrome details, and a striking color combination that highlights the Interceptor’s timeless Italian styling

The bodywork shows no signs of significant corrosion or damage, reflecting years of careful storage and maintenance.

Brightwork, glass, and trim are all in fine order, adding to the car’s striking presence.

The alloy wheels are equally clean, fitted with quality tires that underscore the car’s readiness for the road.

CONDITION INTERIOR

Step inside, and you’re greeted by the warm, inviting tones of original Mulberry red leather upholstery, softly aged but superbly preserved.

The seats are supremely comfortable, offering ample support for long-distance touring.

The original dashboard, Smiths instrumentation, and factory switchgear remain intact, maintaining a high level of authenticity and charm.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

To own a Jensen is to own more than a car. It is to possess a symbol of an era when grand touring was an art form and when a small British marque dared to build cars for those who demanded something different.

On the road, the Interceptor strikes a fine balance between British sophistication and American muscle.

The ride is supple and comfortable, yet the car feels composed and secure even at higher speeds.

Steering is light and manageable, making the Interceptor easier to handle than its size might suggest, while the suspension offers a supple glide that turns even rough roads into a smooth journey.

It was built for covering long distances in comfort, and it shows, this is a grand tourer in the truest sense.

The driving experience is elevated by its luxurious details: soft leather, excellent visibility through the sweeping rear glass, and an unmistakable air of British craftsmanship.

Examples in an outstanding condition, such as this one, are increasingly difficult to find due to the fact that the restoration costs are much higher then the value of the car itself.

With its striking presentation, desirable specification, and enduring appeal, this Jensen Interceptor Mark II represents not just a rewarding driver’s car but also a wise addition to any serious collection.
