Descrizione

Introduced in late 1954 as the successor to the revolutionary XK120, the Jaguar XK140 refined the formula of the ultimate 1950s sports car. While it retained the stunning, curvaceous lines of its predecessor, the XK140 introduced significant engineering and comfort upgrades.

Exterior: Finished in a stunning, factory-correct Pastel Blue, this XK140 DHC presents exactly as it was delivered from the factory in 1955. The car benefited from a very high-quality restoration around 1990. Decades later, the bodywork and paint finish remain in exceptional condition; it has barely acquired a mark or sign of use since it was repainted. The panel gaps are uniform, and the doors close with a reassuring, solid feel. All chrome brightwork is in excellent condition. The classic wire-spoke wheels are brand new and are wrapped in period-correct Pirelli tires. As a proper XK140, it features the iconic and beautiful split windscreen. The soft top, finished in black, is in lovely condition and fits the frame perfectly.

Interior: The interior has been carefully preserved and remains in excellent condition. Notably, both the dark blue leather seats and the carpets are original to the car. The leather remains remarkably soft and supple, presenting a beautiful, gentle patina that harmonizes perfectly with the rest of the interior. The cabin feels wonderfully untouched, cohesive, and tightly put together.

As a Drophead Coupé, it features a fully lined, plush convertible top built on a sturdy, spring-loaded frame that makes it incredibly easy to raise and lower. With the top up, the multi-layered fabric provides excellent insulation, giving the cabin a quiet, coupe-like feel. The interior also features two small rear occasional seats, and the comfortable front seats can easily accommodate taller drivers thanks to the adjustable steering column. A unique interior feature is the shorter gear lever – a special request made by the first owner when ordering the car new.

Engine and Mechanics: This is no ordinary XK140; this example left the factory equipped with the highly desirable SE (Special Equipment) package – marketed in North America as the MC package. This factory performance upgrade included:

  • The C-Type Cylinder Head: Finished in a distinctive bright red from the factory, featuring a smooth valley with a cast "C" emblem.

  • Upgraded Fuel Delivery: Fitted with twin 1.75-inch SU H6 carburetors tailored to the high-performance head.

  • Dual Exhaust System: Twin pipes and dual mufflers to optimize exhaust scavenging and improve engine breathing.

  • Stiffer Suspension: Thicker, heavy-duty front torsion bars to enhance high-speed handling and cornering stability.

  • Wire Wheels: Center-lock wire wheels fitted as standard equipment, replacing the standard steel disc wheels and rear fender spats.

Mechanically, this Jaguar is in top-tier condition. Invoices from the past 10 years total nearly £40,000, with work carried out by renowned UK-based Jaguar specialists such as Classic Motor Cars (CMC) and Twyford Moors. This extensive mechanical overhaul included a full engine rebuild, a gearbox rebuild, a complete brake system overhaul, and numerous small miscellaneous jobs to iron out any minor kinks.

The car retains its original gearbox and its original, matching-numbers engine. It does, however, feature a few discreet mechanical upgrades to improve modern usability and reliability, including a high-torque starter motor, an upgraded alternator, and an electric auxiliary cooling fan.

History: This XK140 was sold new on May 4th, 1955, by the famed Charles H. Hornburg Jr. Jaguar distributorship in Los Angeles to its first owner, Jack K. Stamp. Mr. Stamp was the president of the W.B. Carter Construction Co. and an avid collector of classic Jaguars. He cherished the car for over half a century until his passing in 2012. It was then passed down to his son before being sold to its current owner in Sweden, who promptly sent the car to the UK for its extensive mechanical restoration.

The car was officially registered in Sweden in 2018 and has been used sparingly ever since. It comes accompanied by a wealth of service documentation and its official Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.
