Jaguar XK120 Now in Stock!

When the Jaguar XK120 was first unveiled at the London Motor Show in 1948, it was never actually intended to become a production car. Jaguar simply needed a platform to showcase its new XK straight-six engine, so an elegant roadster was built around it. Yes, it’s true! The response, however, was so overwhelming that plans quickly changed — this was a car the world wanted!

Within just a few years, the XK120 had established itself as one of the most iconic sports cars of the post-war era. Featured in countless magazines, films and television commercials, it became famous not only for its design, but also for its performance. With a top speed exceeding 120 mph, it set a new standard for what a modern sports car could be, and its name became a symbol of speed and innovation.

The car proved itself both on public roads and in competition, playing a major role in establishing Jaguar’s reputation as a manufacturer of fast, elegant motor cars.

So... the 1952 model represents a mature stage in the XK120’s development. By then, the early aluminium-bodied cars had given way to steel bodywork, making production more practical without compromising the beautiful lines that had made the car famous. Beneath the bonnet remained the same silky-smooth straight-six — an engine that would later be recognised as one of the most significant in British automotive history.

Sitting behind the wheel of an XK120 today is like travelling back to an era when driving was all about feel and a close connection with the machinery. The instruments from Smiths Instruments, the simple, driver-focused interior and the mechanical response create an experience that modern cars simply cannot replicate.

This is a car that communicates with its driver in an entirely different way... through sound, vibration and direct steering.

Compared with its successors, the Jaguar XK140 and Jaguar XK150, the XK120 stands out as the purest and most original expression of the series. The XK140 introduced greater comfort, improved space and more everyday usability, while the XK150 moved further towards the concept of a modern grand tourer, with an increased focus on luxury and performance.

Both are fantastic cars in their own right, but each gradually moved away from the raw, simple and sporting character that defines the XK120.

And that is precisely what makes the XK120 so attractive to collectors.

It represents the beginning of Jaguar’s sports car story — the car that laid the foundation for everything that followed, including legends such as the Jaguar E-Type. Owning an XK120 is therefore not simply about design and driving pleasure; it is about owning the very origin of the story.

It is a car with a purity and historical significance that its successors can never quite replicate.

For many enthusiasts, the XK120 is as close as it gets to the very essence of the classic British sports car. It asks a little more of its driver, but in return delivers an experience that is far more involving.

And if it has not already been made clear enough in the text above, a British Lady such as this naturally requires an owner who understands what classic car ownership involves.

There are no guarantees. The car is not new.
