Many cars are loved for one reason or another. Some recall precise aspects of our history. Few, like the Fiat 1100 tell so many stories of Italy from the late 30s to the late 60s.

The Fiat 1100 was introduced in 1937 and built until 1953.

Designed by noted engineer Dante Giacosa, it was a comfortable family car powered by an in inline 4-cylinder engine of 1,089cc displacement, and for the period, its comfort, handling, and performance were prodigious.

Technically, apart from the transition to the monocoque solution, it was a classic design: rear-wheel drive, independent front, rear live axle and drum brakes.

The name of the new model (1100/103) came from its project number.

The model, despite being a family car, was immediately successful with sportsmen, even Enzo Ferrari complimented it.

In October 1953, the car became available in an openly sports version, the 1100 TV (Turismo Veloce).

In 1956, a restyling involved all 1100/103s, giving birth to the 103 E series.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

At the 30th of September 1954 the Fiat was sold to its first owner, Mr. Vittorio Magherini of Borgo San Lorenzo, Florence.

According to documentation from the Mille Miglia Archive in Brescia the Fiat was subscribed with number 32.28 in the 1955 Mille Miglia with the drivers Mauro Magherini and Renato Rocci.

Mauro was the son of Vittorio Magherini.

Copies of the original Mille Miglia documentation from the Mille Miglia Museum Archive are in the history file of the car.

Notably, the car remained under the care of the same Italian family for seven decades, from 1954 to 2025, and has survived in remarkably original condition.

Some vintage family photos of Mr. Magherini’s family during the 1955 Mille Miglia with the Fiat and during free time are in the history file of the car.

Official Italian registration documents, the ACI Estratto Cronologico and the original Foglio Complementare della Licenza di Circolazione, attest to the car’s unique ownership history and complete provenance.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The paintwork, while showing age and signs of use, retains its charm and speaks of its lived history.

Chrome elements have developed a soft aging that complements the overall character of the car without detracting from its presentation.

One of the most remarkable details is the hand-painted Mille Miglia race number ‘2328’, still visible on the car.

This detail is an iconic mark of its participation in the 1955 event and adds enormous historical value.

Glass, emblems, lighting components, and lenses are all in good condition, consistent with a well-preserved original car.

The overall presentation is honest, evocative, and immensely charming.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior continues the story of gentle use and proud preservation.

When we bought the Fiat, the seller told us that grandma made immediately after delivery a cover to protect the (according to her) beautiful material on the seats.

It is absolutely unbelievable but this cover is still on the seats and only shows 1 little hole on the passenger side.

The interior is fully original and the odometer shows 92.000. If we carefully check the interior we believe that the car has only driven 92.000 kilometers during it’s entire life.

The dashboard, steering wheel, and instrumentation retain their factory finishes and are all in working order.

This untouched, time-worn interior is a rare and increasingly valued feature among collectors, offering a direct connection to the car’s history and original drivers.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

This Fiat 1100/103 exudes charm behind the wheel.

Compact, light, and nimble, it offers an engaging driving experience that’s perfect for historic rallies, including modern Mille Miglia reenactments.

An engine rebuild is currently underway in the Netherlands, ensuring reliable performance and enhanced driving enjoyment for years to come, especially in demanding long-distance events as the Mille Miglia.

Cars that participated in the Mille Miglia in period, like this one, hold a special status and are guaranteed entry into the current editions of the Mille Miglia.

This car, with its provenance, originality, and eligibility, is an exceptional opportunity for the enthusiast who dreams of joining the world’s most prestigious classic car event.
