15 QUESTIONS TO Emanuele Bossetti FROM Vroom Auto

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPANY. WHAT AREA DOES YOUR COMPANY SPECIALISE IN?

My name is Emanuele Bossetti and I am a lover of vintage cars as well as a seller. Since I was 18 years old, I have started collecting a small number of vintage and youngtimer cars and motorbikes. I have always had a passion for vintage and historic vehicles, mainly racing and 80s / 90s vehicles. In recent years I have participated in some fairs such as Milano autoclassica, accredited by the press because of the videos I created on my YouTube channel regarding engines.
My company was born in 2019. I had the idea of opening a classic car dealership, but the costs were excessive, so I looked for a solution that would allow me to cut operating costs and open a car dealership. So, after some research, I contacted the “vroomauto” franchise to open a branch in Tuscany, more precisely in Viareggio.
To all intents and purposes, mine is a self-intermediation agency, so the work, in summary, is very similar to a real estate agency, except that it is carried out in the engine sector. Right from the start I tried to specialize in vintage cars and motorcycles, and I think I am one of the few “car agencies” that focuses mainly on historic vehicles.
I hope to grow my agency and make myself known nationally with commitment and dedication and become a point of reference for the mediation of classic cars.

WHEN DID YOU CATCH THE CLASSIC CAR “VIRUS”? WAS THERE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE IN YOUR CHILDHOOD / YOUTH THAT MADE YOU AN OLDTIMER ENTHUSIAST?

The passion for historic cars was born since I was a child mainly while the others were watching cartoons on tv I was caught with the historical videos of the wrc.
The cars that impressed me the most at the time were the integral Lancia delta hf and the Lancia Stratos. Since I was a child, I used to play car video games with the simulator because it relaxed me.
Once I got my driving license in the bad moments of my life it was enough for me to take a ride on the mountain passes or on the Tuscan hills with my 2003 mg tf to immediately feel better. I think it is a mystical bond that unites me to vintage cars or more precisely to engines in general.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB – WHAT DO YOU LOATH?

The thing I love most about my job is meeting people with the same passion as me. Even when a sale is closed, the greatest gratification is being able to do my job well.

The thing I love least is when there are dead moments, so with little market and consequently you sell less, or when some “businessmen” try in every way to negotiate the price even if the car already has a great collector’s and historical interest and an honest price.

WHICH BRANDS RESSONATE THE MOST WITH YOU? WHICH ARE YOUR THREE FAVOURITE CLASSICS AND WHY?

The car brand that struck me the most is Ferrari for the history behind the brand, for the results it has achieved in motor racing and also because an old saying says: “give a sheet of colors to a child. And tell him to design a car and he will surely make it red”.
My three favorite car models are the Ford gt40 that won at le mans in 1966 for making history, James Dean’s Porsche 550 spider, the famous “gossip” for the story behind that car and the character himself james dean and finally the Lamborghini diablo that I have always been in love with since childhood.

WHAT WAS THE MOST OUT OF THE ORDINARY VEHICLE YOU’VE DEALT WITH SO FAR?

The strangest vehicle was a very distinctive yellow street-food Apecar. I had never seen one restored and kept so maniacally despite it being used every day.

TOPIC VALUE INCREASE/MAINTAIN VALUE: WHICH HORSE SHOULD ONE PLACE THEIR BET ON NOW? DO YOU THINK THE VALUE APPRECIATION WILL CONTINUE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS?

In my opinion, the car to focus on at the moment is the Porsche 911, which has always been an icon of the automotive world.

Almost all 911 models, both historical and youngtimer, have increased their value over time. In my opinion, the most historical models could increase their value by even 30-40%, while as regards the most recent models, therefore 996/997, over the next 2-3 years they could increase by a good 3-5%.

However, if I had to choose a specific car, I would undoubtedly choose the Ferrari F40: its value has multiplied over the years.

WHICH IS THE MOST UNDERESTIMATED OR OVERESTIMATED CLASSIC AUTOMOBILE FROM YOUR POINT OF VIEW AND WHY?

In my opinion the most underestimated car is the Lotus Elise s1, it is a car that can be bought for just under 25k euros in good condition, it is a very rare car, very performing, fun and very agile in addition, if there are very few and , in my opinion it would certainly be an excellent investment for the future. Perhaps one of the reasons why we hear little about it in the world of classic cars could be because the Elise is still a youngtimer and therefore there are not many enthusiasts who bet on it.

While the most overrated car given my personal experience is the Ferrari Testarossa. I happened to see one and I do not question the collectible interest of the car, its history or even less the perfect mechanics. In the last few years, the owners have devalued the value of the Testarossa, asking for exaggerated prices. In fact, from what I have noticed, some of them remain unsold. The car itself is a piece of history, but lately its value has dropped dramatically, and this is hard to tell anyone who owns one.

DO YOU SEE A GENERATIONAL CHANGE IN THE MARKET FOR CLASSIC CARS? IF YES, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT?

Yes, I noticed a generational change as regards the aesthetic aspect of the cars: the older ones had lines much more suited to that era and sometimes even better than those of today or less ancient ones. The more we went forward in time, the more cars began to be “all the same”.

As far as fans are concerned, there are always many people who enter this world, even very young ones, but both in terms of the economic aspect and the time and dedication that this passion occupies, in my opinion, some people give up on this world.

Personally, touring the fairs in Italy of vintage cars and motorcycles, I realized that we are always the same and rarely there are new exhibitors.

WHAT IS AN ABSOLUTE “TABOO” TOPIC FOR YOU IN TERMS OF CLASSICS VEHICLES?

In my opinion, a taboo of historic cars is precisely speed, with the exception of cars prepared for car competitions, historic races or in general for the track.

If you own a historic car you should to drive it just for the driving pleasure that only certain cars are able to give you. If you want to exaggerate the speed on cars of this type that do not have the technologies of today’s vehicles, you risk not only doing damage to the car, but also to your life.

WHERE DOES THE TOPIC “CLASSIC CARS” END FOR YOU AND WHY?

According to me, a car should stop being considered historical if it is no longer of interest for collectors, or if it becomes “unsavable” so that even a restoration cannot save it.

WHICH MODERN VEHICLES HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR YOU TO BECOME A REAL OLDTIMER IN 30 YEARS?

In my opinion there are many cars that could become historic starting from the classic ferrari models, to today’s Porsche 911 or to the beautiful Lamborghini’s.

Since electric is very fashionable today, in my opinion, in the future the first electric cars that have come out at the moment and in recent years will become of historical and collector interest. In particular, I would focus on a Tesla or, why not, the new Porsche Taycan.

HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF CLASSIC CAR TRADING AND WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?

In my opinion, the main obstacle that should be overcome is precisely to leave the niche world and make it clear to those who are not fond of historic cars that you can, with the price of a new subcompact, buy a beautiful historic car with years of history and that maybe carries a legendary brand.

In addition, it is necessary to explain to those who are no experts in vintage cars that the maintenance and maintenance of a classic car, even as a secondary car, does not necessarily need to be expensive.

In fact, most people, even if not passionate, when they see a vintage car on the street turn to look at it. As for the future of the historic car trade, I think that in order to improve the future of trade and expand this world to a wider audience, we must avoid remaining a market reserved for a few and opening up to new markets and target people.

WHICH VEHICLE DO YOU DESPERATELY WANT TO DRIVE AGAIN AND WHY?

In the list of cars I would like to drive, the first, my favorite car, is definitely the Porsche 550 spider. The love for this car was born when I was 16. I had just finished viewing “Wasted Youth” starring James Dean and I found out about his life. Since I liked the film very much, I discovered that the “little bastard” as he called it had died in a Porsche 550 spider. Doing further research on that model of car I discovered that it was a legend, very fast by the speed standards of that era as well as having elegant and perfect lines. The following year I began to go around the vintage car and motorcycle fairs in search of a 550 spider I could see live. I managed to find it when I was 18. I sat in it and asked the dealer who had it for sale if he could turn it on: it was one of the best moments of my life, a shiver went through me and I didn’t want to get off any more. Obviously, the car was a replica so far I haven’t been able to see an original one yet.

Then I would very much like to drive the Ford gt40 and many many race cars.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ROUTES YOU CAN “EXPERIENCE” IN AN OLDTIMER?

Living in Tuscany I would say all the roads of this region!

In particular the mountain roads and the roads of the hills. If I had to recommend one in particular, I would definitely say the road to the village of Volterra. I have had the opportunity to go down that road many times with my Porsche 996 and every time it gives me fantastic emotions. I recommend it to all readers.

WHAT ADVISE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN “OLDTIMER NEWBIE”?

In a word I would say “passion”. If you have a passion for classic cars, but also for cars in general, you can approach your next classic car without too many problems by finding many enthusiasts.
