I must say that Daimler / Jaguar had a difficult job to improve on the original and most beautiful XJ saloon from 1968 and yet, when they introduced the Series III version in 1979, they did just that - improved a very sexxy looking saloon into one even more attractive
I've always loved these elegant saloons, especially in the V12 versions and I've owned every version of them, from a 1972 Daimler Double Six series 1 in SWB (most rare) up to this exquisite example herewith
One of the very last produced and finished in very traditional Racing Green with contrasting Magnolia hides for the interior
As she is the Daimler version she benefits from better hides, more burr walnut, full side chrome moulding, an electric sunroof as well as the seemless 5.3 litre V12 engine mated to the GM400 automatic transmission and as you can see from the pictures she has a delicate Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel, which matches the veneers really well and is lovely to use as well as looking good too
We picked her up from our friends at Valenti in Ittre, Belgium ( they rebuilt the brakes ) where she had been enjoying a year away from these shores and the journey home was a real treat - quiet and swift with bursts of acceleration whooshing us up to 110mph when the traffic allowed, surprising many of the modern cars as we sped past them
The heating was very much appreciated and we have also regased the air conditioning unit so all is set for next years heat wave!
She still wears her original Roman issued number plates, even though she came here for the first time in 2000
The book pack, service books, original tools (both sets) are still in the boot, which is all neat and tidy - similarly when you open up the engine compartment, a feast awaits you
I simply love this car, and whilst the mileage is very low (42.250 miles) she will be used when the weather allows until someone else wants to take her home
We have recently also replaced her headlining with a new one and also had the drivers seat refurbished, so that she matches the rest of the interior
As mentioned she is EU registered so not tax to pay there
If kept in the UK 5% will have to paid to HMRC
