This truly stunning Aston Martin DB2/4 DHC was supplied new by Cyril Williams Motors Ltd, delivered on the 30th of September 1955 finished in the very rare colour of Orient Blue. Registered new PUK 41, the first owner was a Mr Eric Warman, a Director of Andrew Dakers Ltd, a London publishing business. One of only 84 DB2/4 Drophead Coupe’s ever built, PUK 41 comes with an incredible history to include copies of the original guarantee form, early Aston Martin service notes and a comprehensive file documenting the cars maintenance, upkeep, modifications and restoration. The impressive file of paperwork also documents ownership history, and having spent its early life in London, by the 1980’s the Aston Martin was in Paris and by 1996 owned by Alain Dominique Perrin, an emblematic figure in luxury goods, and former CEO of ‘Must De Cartier’ and later Chairman of Cartier International. PUK 41 returned to the UK in the late 1990’s.
In 2005 the Aston Martin was delivered to marque specialists Davron in Salisbury and subject of a major program of work. The engine and was removed and completely rebuilt to include an unleaded head conversion, main and big end bearings, crankshaft re-grind, Cosworth pistons and new timing chains. Between 2003 and 2007 over £50,000 was spent on the car and documentation is on file detailing major work. Work included interior re-trimming, a new hood, re-wiring to include an alternator conversion, new road springs, stainless steel exhaust manifolds, new clutch, re-conditioned inlet manifolds, brake overhaul and various new ancillaries. The bodyshell was also stripped down, frame work powder coated, various metal work carried out, and some stunning craftsmanship carried out with a modification to a DB MKIII bonnet to slightly modernise the front end of the car. Photographs are on file detailing the process off this highly specialist metal work. Since the major work, and engine rebuild, PUK 41 has covered 10,000 miles to include overseas touring to Slovenia. The Aston was also registered and supplied with an FIVA Identity Card.
By 2014 the DB2/4 formed part of an exclusive private collection in the North of England so mileage slowed down. Although very few miles have been covered in recent years, the car arrived with us in excellent mechanical condition. With only 10,000 miles since the engine rebuild, we can report the six-cylinder 2922cc engine holds excellent oil pressure and performs superbly. The gearbox is effortless throughout the gears and the car handles beautifully. PUK 41 will also be fully serviced for its next owner and is essentially ready for long distance touring. PUK 41 presents in beautiful condition and has been recently subject of a complete full re-paint at a cost approaching £30,000. Twenty years on since bodywork and its last re-paint, the car was stripped down to a rolling shell and completely re-painted and as result, looks truly incredible with a first-class paint finish. The beautifully aged Red leather interior holds lovely patina, giving the car and original feel, and the Blue mohair hood is in excellent condition.
Autocar quoted "The Aston Martin DB2/4 is an expensive car designed to cater for the connoisseur of sports cars who is not limited by financial considerations" back in 1953. With the introduction of the '2+2' DB2/4 in October 1953, Aston Martin extended the model's appeal to the hitherto untapped, yet increasingly important market comprised of 'sports car enthusiasts with a family'. Modifications enabled two child-sized occasional rear seats or alternatively the rear seat backs can be folded down creating a load-carrying platform that more than doubled the luggage space. This gave the model unrivalled luggage carrying capacity and ‘The Motor' famously quoted "The DB2/4 can truthfully claim to be the fastest car in the world capable of carrying two people with a month's luggage." Standard specification included the 2.6-litre 'VB6E' engine in 125bhp Vantage tune, but from early in 1954 the 3-litre 140bhp 'VB6J' engine was installed, providing 118mph top speed and 60mph in around 11 seconds. This was one of the fastest cars then built in Great Britain - with l00mph achievable in third gear and around 120mph maximum - possessing impeccable handling plus a level of comfort rare in any high-performance car.
