Description

This E-Type is one of the few TYPE II models that were delivered from the factory with a TYPE III hood. This front hood features greater width and a larger "mouth." The vehicle was completely rebuilt for 200,000.00 EURO and has only been driven 1,500 km since the restoration was completed in 2022. The wooden steering wheel was specially crafted in England for this vehicle.

The Jaguar E-Type (known as the Jaguar XK-E in the USA) was a sports car model from the English manufacturer Jaguar. It was introduced on March 15, 1961, at the Geneva Auto Show as a descendant of the successful racing car, the Jaguar D-Type. It was available as a two-seater and 2+2-seater coupe (Fixed-Head Coupe) as well as a two-seater roadster (OTS or Open Two Seater). The six-cylinder inline engine with a displacement of 3,781 cm³ delivers 265 bhp/269 PS (197.6 kW), corresponding to that of the XK 150 S 3.8-liter. It drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The E-Type reaches a top speed of nearly 240 km/h. Apart from its high performance, the design developed by Malcolm Sayer was particularly exciting. The E-Type was sold very successfully, especially in the USA. The steel tubular frame under the hood supports the engine and front suspension and is bolted to the otherwise self-supporting all-steel body. Jaguar continued the path taken with the Jaguar D-Type. New for the conservative British automotive industry was the rear double wishbone suspension on its own subframe with a longitudinal link and two spring-damper units, with the drive shafts acting as upper wishbones. The design proved successful in terms of handling, ride comfort, and appearance, remaining in use until 1996.

In 1964, the 3.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine was bored out to 4.2 liters (4,235 cm³), providing a maximum torque of 384 Nm at 4,000 rpm while maintaining the same engine output (269 PS/197.6 kW at 5,400 rpm). At the same time, a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission developed by Jaguar replaced the Moss box with its unsynchronized first gear and long gear throws. The improvement of the poorly cushioned seats particularly benefited Jaguar drivers. In 1966, the 2+2 was introduced, a coupe with a longer wheelbase and two emergency seats in the rear. When the seat back is folded down, a spacious, albeit fully visible, luggage compartment is created due to the large rear window. A three-speed automatic transmission from BorgWarner was optionally available for the 2+2. The American safety and environmental regulations prompted significant modifications to the E-Type in competition with the Corvette. Thus, the E-Type Series II was introduced in 1968 with many innovations. The now-missing headlight covers severely impacted the aerodynamic design, which was considered a stylistic break at Jaguar at the time (already introduced a year earlier with what is now referred to as the Series 1 ½), while the headlights had to be moved further forward in Series II, which was described in contemporary literature as a disaster and is still reflected in the significant value difference in the collector's market today. Additionally, toggle switches were added to the dashboard, a larger radiator opening, larger turn signal and taillight units now mounted below the bumpers, and a flatter windshield for the 2+2.
