Adler Standard 8 Classic Cars for Sale

The 8 cylinder version of the classic Adler Standard 6, the Adler Standard 8 was a large limousine bodied, traditionally styled motor car.

Adler Standard 8 models

The Adler Standard 8 first appeared in two guises, both being reasonable priced in comparison to their closest rivals. The safe design and engineering were in later models replaced by higher and sleeker specifications, but the original Adler Standard models, a four door saloon, and the cabriolet version, were presented to the world as affordable and attractive, perhaps directed towards the Mondeo man of the day. In 1931 further models of the Adler Standard 8 appeared, although the word Standard was dropped from the name and the more dangerous sounding Adler Achtzylinder taking its place, to match the more powerful new engine of the later model. Although the engine was no larger, compression ratios had been altered to deliver more power, and the designers also took care to revamp the design and leave the conservative image behind.

Adler Standard 8 – Technical

The Adler Standard 8 original model was rear wheel drive and originally had as three gear manual gearbox from 1928 until 1930, when a four speed box was introduced. The later more powerful engine produced a maximum power output of 79hp at 3200 rpm, up from the 69hp of the earlier model. The change was made possible by the new Stromburg UU2 carburettor which superseded the old pre mix Pallas 4.

Adler Standard 8 Desirability

To the modern owner, the Adler Standard 8 is considered a classic and much in demand. With only 1720 units built between 1928 and 1934, finding an original is never going to be easy. The Adler Standard 8 held wide appeal both then and now, as do other models from Adler. The smaller brother of the Adler Standard 8, the Adler standard 6, first available from 1926, was produced alongside the Standard 8, and shared a wheel base with the cheaper four cylinder Adler Favorit, which was made available from 1929 and offered a cheaper alternative for those desiring the Adler name. The Adler 6 was the model used by the model Clarenore Stinnes on her car journey around the world in 1927. Adler produced both cars and motorcycles from 1900 to 1957. Adler is German for Eagle, a fitting name for a motor car of such beauty and class.
