When Porsche revived the iconic Carrera name in 1984, the engineers in Stuttgart likely felt reassured about the future once again. Although the engine retained the familiar air-cooled architecture at its core, the new 3.2-liter powerplant was extensively revised. Several weaknesses of earlier generations were addressed, and the result was remarkable: with more than ample power on tap, the Carrera 3.2 came surprisingly close to the performance figures of the legendary 1974 911 Turbo.
