Description

1979 Lincoln Continental Collector Edition painted in midnight blue metallic with blue velor interior. The odometer shows 23,995 km and the chassis number is 9Y82S730916

All fluids changed, rear axle, automatic oil, all filters, new fuel pump, new factory refurbished carburettor and brake fluid. AC does not function.

This car was found by the seller on the Spanish sun coast where it has been part of a private car museum in recent years. Thus it is a one-owner car with extremely low miles and great history.

The car is currently in Stockholm and will be sold registered in Sweden.

The car was previously owned by a Saudi Sheik who had a huge car collection and was commissioned new by the Sheik in the US in 1979. This was the last year this model was manufactured before they changed the name to Town Car. This particular car is special, as it is said that this very example was the last car to roll off the belt at the Wixom Assembly in Michigan before production was discontinued. This example has all conceivable equipment that could be included, including electric chairs, cruise control, electrically openable sunroof, and a telephone installed in 1981!

The upholstery is in blue velour in and in perfect condition, the paint Midnight Blue metallic. Under the hood, you can still see the original notes written by the factory workers on the assembly line.
A fun detail is that, like many American cars, low beam and high beam are adjusted with the foot on the pedals. A huge cargo space occupies the rear with spare wheels in the drawer. The gearbox is a 400 CID Automatic. The powerplant is a 6.6L V8 from Ford that hardly lacks torque and gives that classic American V8 feeling at start-up.

A significant characteristic of this model feature is the cover that is lowered over the headlights when the lights are turned off for a cleaner design language. These work perfectly on this example.

The car really has a masculine design and exudes luxury and volume! The Lincoln Continental Mark VI was Ford's absolute flagship at the time. The car measures almost 5.6 m in length and two meters in width.

As this car is part of the Collectors Series the are some interesting extra features best described below. This car is one of The Midnight Blue versions that came with matching vinyl roof colors.Signature exterior features include color-keyed Coach Roof, gold-color grille and bumper inserts, right-hand remote-controlled outside rearview mirror, color-keyed premium bodyside moldings, color-keyed turbine-style cast-aluminum wheels, Appearance Protection Group (front and rear carpeted floor mats, door edge guards, and rear license plate frame), right and left-side illuminated vanity mirrors, and Interior Light Group. “Collector’s Series” nomenclature is affixed to each rear roof sail panel attesting to the fact this is the quintessential luxury sedan. The Continental Collector’s Series further includes as standard equipment: power-operated windows, interval wipers, Defroster Group (electric window defroster and heated left-side outside rearview mirror), and Headlamp Convenience Group (automatic headlamp dimmer, and Autolamp on/off delay system). This is a sedan designed for comfort.

From the period Lincoln press material:The ample dimensions are visually enhanced and balanced by body lines subtly styled in the gracious Lincoln Continental tradition. Elegance…all the luxury you’d expect…and a ride that’s smooth and sure are all attributes of the 1979 Continental Collector’s Series sedan – This car is so comprehensively equipped…it would be easier to tell you what it doesn’t have…

Everything about the interior of the 1979 Continental Collector’s Series has been designed with maximum comfort and convenience in mind. It gives rear-seat passengers as much legroom as the front-seat passengers. The headlining is trimmed in rich Harvard cloth. The luxury of posh 36 oz. deep pile carpet lines the interior and 16 oz. cut pile carpet lines the trunk.
Put it simply, this is a car that personifies true American abundance. And the crown jewel of this flagship - The watch made in collaboration with acclaimed jeweler and watchmaker Cartier!
