The Fiat X1/9 is a two-seater designed by Bertone and manufactured by Fiat from 1972-1982. Bertone subsequently took the lead from 1982-1989 and, in 1982, shortly after the introduction of the 1500 model, complete production was assumed by Bertone with models from this point forward badged as the Bertone X1/9. With a transverse engine and gearbox in a mid-mounted, rear-wheel drive configuration, the X1/9 was noted for its excellent handling and lightweight, removable hardtop.
Purchased on 4th August 1984 from Marn Garage of Camberley and registered on 6th August in the name of the first owner, this incredible time warp example of the X1/9 with the premium Versione Speciale specification is presented in two-tone metallic silver over metallic charcoal, the only body colour combination supplied by Bertone with contrasting red leather trim. The paintwork and trim are totally original with the genuine patina of this forty-two year old car. Original stickers remain in place, even in the engine bay.
The first owner used the car on the road continuously until 1st September 2008 when it was placed on SORN having covered 15,203 miles over twenty-four years. The car had work carried out in 2021 when coming out of storage which including cambelt replacement and attention to the fuel pump, starter motor and brakes. There is a comprehensive pack of all original service and maintenance invoices for work carried out throughout the car's history. Purchased by our vendor in August 2022, the car was surveyed more closely due to the long SORN period and any necessary mechanical tasks attended to. Now, with an odometer reading of 16,713 miles, the car is used regularly for short trips and has been stored in controlled conditions during the winter months. Any arising mechanical issues have been dealt with immediately. Sold with a V5 registration document, a current MoT test certificate until 6th October 2026 and registered with DVLA as Vehicle Excise Duty exempt.
We are informed the car handles with the suppleness and neutrality of its mid-engine design and is a joy on a summer's day with the removable targa top off. It is estimated sensibly and represents fantastic value motoring for such a special feeling. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
