The Fiat 500 “Topolino” is one of Europe’s automotive icons. Introduced before the Second World War, the model was continued in revised form after 1945 as the 500 B. Due to its gearing, the current top speed is reduced to around 80 km/h, but this is accompanied by improved hill-climbing ability. This allows for more relaxed driving in hilly terrain with reduced thermal stress on the engine – a practical advantage consistent with the vehicle’s original purpose.
The vehicle is said to have been restored around the year 2000 by a previous owner, presumably with the involvement of a specialist workshop in Fürth. In subsequent years, the Topolino was maintained and continuously optimized by an experienced Fiat mechanic. The available information portrays a vehicle that has not only been preserved but actively maintained and improved.
Of particular interest is the right-hand-drive configuration. According to statements from the environment of marque clubs and historical classification, such configurations were apparently experimented with at the time, particularly for use in alpine regions.
