Few pre-war British sportscars capture the spirit of affordable motoring quite like the Austin 7 Nippy. Introduced in 1934 as the sporting evolution of the highly successful Austin Seven, the Nippy combined lightweight construction, attractive coachwork and lively performance to create one of the most enjoyable small sportscars of its era. The model featured a tuned version of Austin's renowned 747cc four-cylinder engine, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox, and was capable of speeds approaching 65mph, impressive performance for such a compact machine. Production numbers were limited, with fewer than 1,000 examples believed to have been built, making surviving cars highly sought-after today.

Manufactured at Longbridge in approximately July 1935, this vehicle was first registered in Devon between August and November of the same year. It passed through a number of owners during its lifetime and is understood to have undergone extensive restoration work, including refurbishment of the leather interior, repainting and the replacement of its engine. The car was subsequently acquired by a private owner, most likely in 1989, who fitted new wheels and tyres before generously donating it to a museum in 2002. It should be noted that the vehicle was recorded in the 1996 V5 as an 'A50 Cambridge Sports', a description believed to be the result of a clerical error. The car was also featured in the March 2014 edition of the Pre-War Austin 7 Club Magazine. This well-documented example benefits from a recorded ownership history and period club recognition. Today, the Austin 7 Nippy enjoys an enthusiastic following thanks to its charming character, mechanical simplicity and eligibility for numerous historic motoring events. Offering an engaging vintage driving experience, the Nippy remains one of the most desirable sporting derivatives of the iconic Austin Seven range. Please note that this car should not be driven on the road until it has been overseen by a qualified mechanic who may decide it needs a full recommission before use. Consigned by James Good
