Descrizione

There are cars that simply take you from A to B, and then there are cars that make time stand still the instant you shut that heavy, vault-like door with a “clunk” that sounds like a Swiss bank vault. This 1982 380 SEC unquestionably belongs to the second group.

Registered as a historic vehicle in Spain and always Spanish-owned, this W126 has enjoyed the perfect life: dry Mediterranean climate, zero winter salt, weekend use only and long periods carefully stored. The result? A pillarless coupé that still looks, smells and drives as if it just left the Sindelfingen factory yesterday.

Exterior – Elegance that takes your breath away

Painted in the most sought-after colour of the 1980s: Anthracite Metallic (deep charcoal grey). The paint is original except for the front wings and bonnet, which were professionally repainted years ago to Mercedes standards – today it is impossible to tell what was repainted. All chrome shines like new, rubbers and seals are impeccable.

It currently wears stunning 18-inch monoblock alloys that fit it like a bespoke suit and give it brutal road presence, but the original 16-inch wheels with tyres that easily pass the ITV are also included – perfect if you prefer the 100 % factory look.

Interior – Black leather and the scent of 1980s wealth

The moment you open the door, the aroma hits you: that unique blend of carefully preserved Spanish leather and MB-Tex that only comes from a car that has aged with love. Black leather seats (soft, no cracks, no hard spots), glossy Zebrano wood, perfect tight headliner, electric windows that work as smoothly as the day they left the factory (rare on a 43-year-old coupé). Ice-cold air conditioning after its latest service, original Becker Grand Prix radio still scanning for stations. Even the original first-aid kit and tool roll remain in the boot.

Driving – Infinite analogue pleasure

Turn the key and the 3.8-litre all-aluminium V8 settles into that legendary silky idle that made the W126 famous. 204 hp and, more importantly, an ocean of torque from just above idle. The four-speed automatic shifts so smoothly you barely notice it. Light yet communicative steering, hydropneumatic suspension that swallows potholes while keeping the long body perfectly flat through fast corners. This is not a sports car; it is a transcontinental express wearing a dinner jacket.

203,000 honest kilometres. Recently completed: complete new brakes, new suspension bushings, full major service and all fluids changed. Spanish ITV valid until 2028, all paperwork in perfect order and eligible for historic vehicle registration in most European countries.

Why this particular 380 SEC?
