1979 | Lotus Esprit S2

This without doubt is the very best Lotus Esprit we've owned. One of only 1000 built, the S2 is a rare model and one that was superbly received by the motoring press and had instant global recognition featuring in the James Bond movie "The Spy Who Loved me". THG 230T comes with a Certificate of Provenance with build spec letter and boxed Lotus collectables confirming it left the factory in Black (L15) with Champagne leather and was number 14 of 22 built to this specification for the UK home market. The Esprit was signed off from its manufacturer on the 27th November 1978 and supplied to Stoke Lotus agent Tim & Zoe Randles as their demonstrator.

The Lotus comes with a huge level of paperwork that details a 1993 restoration and after 20,000 miles and then 19 years of dry storage, the Lotus was subject to a more recent four-year nut and bolt restoration to show standard level. Often these cars are seen sympathetically and economically restored but this car is a different level having been taking to an incredibly high standard. Surface & Design, a prestige automotive bodywork refinishing company took the body back to the fibre glass and superbly prepared and re-painted the car in its original Black with Gold pin factory striping. The engine was removed and completely rebuilt to 2.2 specification, the transmission was overhauled and a new clutch fitted. The suspension was overhauled, as was the braking system and all the wiring checked over and renewed as required. A new full exhaust system was installed including manifolds to ensure impressive engine presentation.

On the road, the Esprit really impresses with under 1000 kg and a throaty twin cam engine providing an exciting drive with one of the most balanced chassis of all time. The beautiful, lightweight Italian Giugiaro styled fibreglass body sits on a steel backbone chassis with engine in the rear creating an incredible driving experience paying homage to the success the Lotus had in motorsport. The Lotus provides a thrilling drive, the steering and braking are responsive and sharp and it offers impressive power and performance from the uprated engine. The paintwork is pristine throughout with an incredible, gleaming finish and is complimented by the Gold stripes and wheels. The interior is beautifully finished, comfortable and of high quality. This car offers the full package, it's an incredibly special car finished to a very high standard and comes with fantastic paperwork.
