1966 Jaguar Mk. II (3.4-litre)
The lineage of the Jaguar Mk. II can be traced directly to its predecessor, the 2.4-litre saloon (retrospectively known as the Mk. I). Traditional Jaguar buyers were not alienated by the new offering from Coventry; the cabin retained the marque's familiar blend of leather and walnut. With 112bhp, the 2.4 was competent rather than rapid, prompting Jaguar to introduce the 3.4-litre version in 1957. Capable of a genuine 120mph, it soon warranted the fitment of disc brakes to keep performance in check. Rather than create an entirely new model, Jaguar comprehensively revised the design and, in 1959, the Mk. II was born. Slimmer windscreen pillars replaced the earlier car's heavier items, creating a lighter, airier cabin and sharpening the overall appearance for the new decade.
Finished in the ever-elegant Opalescent Silver Blue, this 3.4-litre manual example represents a rare opportunity, having remained in single-family ownership from new. Purchased brand new by our vendor's grandfather, it has passed down through the generations ever since - a provenance seldom encountered and especially appealing today. Specified with the desirable 3.4-litre XK engine and manual gearbox, it offers the engaging character for which the model is so well regarded. The car is understood to remain notably original, reflecting long-term custodianship rather than restoration. Having spent a number of years in storage, it has recently undergone light recommissioning in preparation for sale and now stands ready for its next chapter. Consigned by Fraser Smith
