The Mk. I Ford Consul and Zephyr 6 models were first displayed at the Earl's Court Motor Show in 1950. In 1953, the Zodiac model was added. Ford were the first to use, in mass production, the MacPherson Strut independent front suspension, which is still widely used today. Production began with the Consul on 1st January 1951. The original model ran until 1956 when the Mk. II Consul, Zephyr and range-topping Zodiac went on sale and were known as the three Graces. In 1956 the Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac (latterly known as the 'Highline' models) were all restyled to a new family look. In 1959, the Facelift (Lowline) models arrived. The six-cylinder engines were enlarged to 2,553cc with power output correspondingly increased to 86bhp. The Mk. II range was a big seller and finished its run in April 1962.
This classic Mk. II Zodiac Lowline is presented in striking Pastel Green over Old English White coachwork with a burgundy and cream interior, in excellent condition, complementing the classic two-tone bodywork. The car presents in very good condition throughout, and we are informed the chassis has never been welded, we concur the bodywork is remarkably solid for its age. The interior has been re-upholstered, including the headlining, giving it a fresh and comfortable feel while keeping in line with its classic character. Boasting the 2.5 litre six-cylinder engine with column shift, this Zodiac is a wonderful example of a true British classic described by our vendor as ready to enjoy as it is.
