The elegant E9 CSI coupés are among the milestones from BMW, not least because of the fantastic, silky-smooth M30 six-cylinder engine equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic intake manifold injection. The vehicles were built between September 1971 and December 1975 under contract from BMW at Karmann's Rheine plant.

Special attention should be paid to these elegant and technically sophisticated coupés, and from the point of view of many specialists, these BMW sports cars in particular deserve even more attention. The gorgeous shape, the excellent chassis, the excellent brakes and the powerful M30 engine were the measure of all things in the early 1970s. The interior pampers the owner with luxurious materials, the seats are comfortable with acceptable lateral support, and the VDO instruments are a feast for the eyes. A perfect sports car to see and be seen with, unmistakable DNA from its very successful touring car history.

This very beautiful E9 CSI Coupe was first delivered to the BMW branch in Stuttgart on March 2, 1972, with an electric sunroof and black leather interior.

Over 35 years ago, it was restored and repainted in its current BMW colour of Macao Blue (250). It is most likely the only exclusively individual example in the world in this specific colour combination. It was originally delivered in Polaris Metallic (060). The restoration was a few years ago, and during the takeover check, corrosion was discovered on the sills and the bumpers at the front and rear, and these were replaced and repaired with all seals. Further work or replacement of the original BMW parts in the appendix.

 The vehicle has a good substance again and is ready for use as a "daily driver" or for a collection. A total of four previous owners were identified during my history research. Everyone treated the vehicle with care, as evidenced by the excellent, probably original leather interior and the conversion to the CSL design in 1986 to this day.

 

 The steering wheel was replaced with a NARDI mahogany steering wheel, but the replacement PETRI wooden steering wheel is available and corresponds to the original delivery, as well as the contemporary original Alpina 14-inch aluminium wheels, which were replaced by a rare multi-part BBS rim set.

 The perfectly shaped VDO round instruments are complemented by several additionally installed oil thermometers, oil pressure and voltmeter VDO instruments in the centre console.

 A Becker Mexico radio is responsible for the entertainment, but you can also hear the beguiling sound of the silky-smooth M30 engine with the optimally adjusted Bosch D-Jetronic intake manifold injection and delight the real E9 lover.

The 4-speed ZF1253 transmission harmonises perfectly with the 200 hp engine. A touch of patina currently surrounds this BMW icon. The sporty new chassis and the new brakes do their job precisely, as usual with BMW. This E9 3.0 CSI is also equipped with front power windows and rear power windows—a wonderful 4-seater coupé, ready for a comfortable or, if desired, a sporty ride.

In my opinion, the BMW E9S remain undervalued despite recent price increases, and I anticipate further potential for increased value. All in all, it is a wonderful coupé with a breathtaking design and a specific paint job true to the motto:

 BMW Sheer Driving Pleasure.
