Description
History. Chrysler 300 Letter Car History
Officially released on February 10, 1955, the first Chrysler 300 had an athletic look with 300 gross horsepower on board, it was among the fastest cars of its time. It was able to reach 60 mph in just 9.8 seconds, according to a test in Mechanix illustrated by "Uncle Tom" McCahill. Uncle Tom also boosted the car to 130 MPH. Tom McCahill and others in the contemporary automotive press have used the term "Beautiful Brutes" to describe the Chrysler 300 series cars. In addition to being the most powerful production car of its era, the first Chrysler 300 was also among the best-handling, thanks to a beefed-up suspension. It may well be considered the forerunner of the latest muscle cars, although much more expensive, luxurious and exclusive.
Fourth Generation: 1963-1964
A major restyling came to all Chryslers for 1963 with an all-new exterior shell, designed by the design team led by Elwood Engel, which carried the last of Virgil Exner's styling influences. The styling was carried over to 1964 with some minor modifications. The major change between 1963 and 1964 was the enlargement of the rear window in height and width, and the addition of small fins to the top of the side panels. This change allowed the driver of a 1964 Chrysler model to see where the rear corners of the car were while backing up. Minor changes for 1964 included redesigned taillights and a redesigned front bumper and grille.
Description
This 1964 Chrysler 300K is one of only 625 convertibles produced, a rare and exceptional vehicle for its modern equipment. Equipped with a red upholstery, the car has been completely restored a few years ago. The interior is new, the seats are beautiful and the car has all the functional equipment as at the time such as electric bench, power steering, heating, electric soft top, the famous Torqueflite automatic transmission (with buttons).
The 413 ci, V8 engine is sensational, smooth, the car is super alert and it's a pleasure to drive. Its steering wheel, a bit elliptical, gives you a very good grip and it's really innovative for the time as equipment. Everything is beautiful to look at in this car, the brand is part of the top of the range of the time and this 300 reminds you of it, by the quality of its restoration which shows you the beautiful quality of manufacture of the time.
The bodywork is very healthy, the paint is old but looks very good. The hood seems to have been changed as well and everything is perfect as far as its functioning is concerned with a nice red hood cover. The car will be registered in France and sold with an updated CT.
Our opinion
Certainly a very rare piece on our territory and a great opportunity to drive a sumptuous and very modern American car for its time!
