Some motorcycles are restored.
Some are modified.
And then, every once in a while, you find one that has simply survived.
This 1979 Yamaha XT500 (1E6) is one of those rare motorcycles.
It is an exceptionally original, unrestored survivor that still retains its factory first paint, original fuel tank, original exhaust system and many authentic factory details that have disappeared from most XT500s over the years.
One of its most important features is its matching numbers — the engine and frame numbers correspond exactly, making it a highly desirable example for collectors.
1979 is a landmark year in XT500 history. It was the same year Yamaha XT500 won the very first Paris–Dakar Rally, cementing its place among the most iconic motorcycles ever built.

The motorcycle starts easily, runs beautifully and rides exactly as an original XT500 should.
It is being offered for one very personal reason. Following spinal surgery, I have decided to stop riding kick-start motorcycles. I hope this exceptional XT500 will find a new owner who appreciates originality and authenticity as much as I have.
Restored XT500s can always be created.
An original survivor can never be recreated.
