Beschreibung
Jaguar’s famous E-type, presented in 1961, may not have been as fast as a Ferrari, as elegant as an Aston Martin or as well built as a Mercedes, but it was for sure in a class of its own, giving you a sports car with the best value for money ratio. With the E-Type, Jaguar was able to convert all its success from the racetracks with the victorious C- and D-type racers into a glamorous and extremely smooth sports car for road use. The fact that the iconic E-Type also became a symbol of the 1960s and has since been proclaimed the world’s sexiest car, has not diminished its status as one of the most sought-after classic cars.
Who has not with admiration seen the races from Goodwood Revival and the like, where drivers – famous and maybe not so famous yet – have masterfully driven these cars around the track at almost unreal speeds!? The powerful engine with the enormous surplus propels the car forward, and although the chassis of an E-Type is pure racing technology, it challenges the driver if the full potential is to be exploited to the maximum. Mind you, it’s fast.
The early series 1 cars (1961-1964) are clearly the most sought-after. The 3.8 liter XK-based engine, with its 3 carburetors, is the sportiest version of Sir William Lyon’s brilliant design, dating back to before the war. Initially avaible either as Open Two Seater (OTS) or Fixed Head Coupe (FHC). The 2+2 versions arrived later in 1966.
This matching numbers E-Type is Danish from new – imported by famous Jaguar dealer Ole Sommer in March 1963, and sold to its first Danish owner in July of the same year. The car went with its owner to the USA and was sold to a Germany in 1990. In 1997-1999 the car was completely restored and still today present itself in very good condition, both in body, interior and mechanically. After exactly 40 years, the car return to Denmark in 2003, and has since been in careful and enthusiastic ownership. Nice upgrades like 6×15” Competition Wire Wheels and a Big Bore exhaust system in stainless steel have now been added.
The car drives impressively well and it’s pure excitement being in the driver’s seat overlooking the long beautiful engine hood and the Spitfire cockpit style dashboard. The sound from the XK is intoxicating, making every trip in this car something special. And even when standing still, you can enjoy the look and design of one of the most beautiful cars ever produced.
