Description

A rare bird indeed: The Triumph Tiger 100, better known as the T100, was introduced in 1939 as the sporting version of the Triumph Speed Twin, and immediately positioned itself among the best high-performance British motorcycles of the late 1930s. Designed to achieve the coveted “Ton,” the Tiger 100 was genuinely capable of 100 mph, a remarkable benchmark for a 500cc parallel twin of the era.

What sets this particular T100 apart is the exceptionally rare Bronze Head specification. Available only by special order and produced in very limited numbers, the high-performance bronze cylinder head offered improved heat dissipation and combustion efficiency, boosting the already impressive sporting credentials of the Tiger 100.

In the context of its contemporaries, machines such as the Rudge Ulster, Norton International, BSA Gold Star, and Sunbeam Model 90, few can rival the rarity and distinctive specification of a Bronze Head Triumph T100.

This example has been comprehensively restored to a high standard. The engine was professionally rebuilt in Denmark with new crankshaft, bearings, cams, pistons, valves, guides, seats etc. It has covered just 500 meters since completion and therefore requires careful running-in and minor final fettling. The machine presents in very good condition, with high-quality paint and chrome throughout.

The wheels have been rebuilt with new chrome rims and stainless spokes, and numerous new components fitted, including clutch plates, primary and secondary chains, sprockets, and cables. It retains matching numbers and is accompanied by the original Danish registration documents and other period documentation, along with later Danish (EU) registration papers.

Minor adjustments remain, including front brake adjustment, handlebar mounting tension, and small detail items like the face of the orignial Triumph branded oil pressure gauge, but these do little to detract from what is an exceptionally rare and historically significant pre-war sporting Triumph. The 1939 Bronze Head Tiger 100 stands as one of the most exclusive and desirable British sporting motorcycles of its era.
