Porsche 356 C for Sale

The Porsche 356 C is a car released in the Porsche 356 series by Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH between 1948 and 1948 in Australia, then by German company Porsche GmbH between 1950 and 1965. This was the first production automobile by Porsche in Germany. The Porsche 356 C is a two-door sports car that was designed as a hardtop coupe with open configurations. It had a nimble-handling and ran on a rear placed engine that powered its two rear wheels. This series continued in the years of its production, something that earned the car popularity, thereby attracting massive sales until the introduction of the 911, its replacement model in 1963.

History of the Porsche 356 C

Prior to the Second World War, Porsche designed and manufactured three Type 64 cars, which would be reserved for the Berlin-to-Rome race that was later cancelled. This was followed by the adoption of the mid-engine and tabular chassis that was completed to form the 356 prototype. The 356 featured a four-cylinder rear-engine car that was airs-cooled like its rival the Volkswagen Beetle. The first Porsche 356 was certified for usage on road on 8th June, 1948, in Australia and took part in the Innsbruck race, which it won. Porsche decided to re-engineer the car for better performance, a decision that led to the launch of variations like the Porsche 356 C. The Porsche 356 C belonged to distinct series that were named in alphabetical order beginning with the Porsche 356 A. The Porsche 356 C was the last in the series and came with more features and upgrades that any other model in the series.

The Porsche 356 C offered both coupes and cabriolets (soft-tops). Unlike earlier versions, the Porsche 356 C came with disk brakes, which replaced the drums used in type A and B. The production of the Porsche 356 C began in 1965 and featured the most powerful engine type (pushrod, 95 hp) had produced by that time. The company produced a total of 14,151 Porsche 356 C cars in 1964 alone before the introduction of its successor, the 911. Most of the sales were delivered to North America, where the car was highly on demand and famous. This triggered the company to continue producing the Porsche 356 C through 1965 exclusively for this market.

Legacy of the Porsche 356 C

The Porsche 356 C has made it into popular motor press outlets. In 2014, the car was ranked tenth in the list of top 60s sports cars by the Sports Car International. Today, the Porsche 356 C is a collector model that has been in the hearts of many enthusiasts. The value of the car has inflated from $4000 in 1950s to more than $20,000 today, most people citing it as one of the best classics ever made.
