Audi 60 Classic Cars for Sale

Audi 60, derived from the model F103, is a car designed and manufactured by Audi Union GmbH. The car was manufactured between 1965 and 1972 and came in both two and four stroke versions. The first model that was later redesigned to give Audi 60 was simply named Audi, which was later developed into Audi 72 (denoting the nominal output of the car’s engine). In 1966, the Audi released the Audi 80 and the 90 sports, which were way more powered than the previous versions. It is in 1968 when the Audi 60 arrived to the markets, although it was slightly less powered than the Audi 80 and 90 Sports. The Audi 60 was designed as a simple sedan for family, but there were special trims that were well powered for performance and sporting. These designs were also inspired by the demands of the market and the revolution at the time in the motor industry.

History of Audi 60

The Audi 60 F103 body shell was designed as an upgrade of the DKW F102, with a slightly extended engine bay and came with a four-cylinder engine. Audi 60 also came with cosmetic revisions on the tail and front to distinguish the car from the previous versions of the F103 series. The Audi 60 F103 was mainly sold in the European market and was designed with quasi-rectangular headlamps to suit customer preferences in different markets. This was also because of the fact this lamp design was becoming the fashion among many car models, so they had to keep updated to remain relevant in the market. Audi also made a three door version of the car, a station wagon model, whose debut was shown during the Geneva Motor Show of 1966.

Initial tweaks of the Audi 60 were made to the bonnet and the exterior, but with market demands for a superior brand, the company decided to embark on offering bigger engines and better powered versions of the Audi 60. In September 1967, Audi 60 was upgraded to have servo-assistance breaking system, so the brakes had twin braking circuits. In 1970, there were few changes made to the body, especially the aerodynamics to improve the performance of the Audi 60. The car was also redesigned to place the license plate flush with the body on the rear end; this was also inspired by the trends then in the motoring industry. Towards end of 1968, Audi 60 was restructured to form the Audi 100.
