famous B18 engine with double carburetors!
Description
In August 1958, Volvo introduced the PV544, a more modern version of the PV444. The changes were the most extensive since the PV444 was introduced in 1944.
The body received a larger, convex windshield, along with a larger rear window, to improve visibility.
The interior received a new dashboard with a padded upper section for greater safety.
The speedometer was a "thermometer" type; a red stripe displayed the speed. The rear seat was redesigned to improve comfort and provide space for an additional passenger.
This model also received technical updates. The Volvo PV444 was only available with one engine option (except in North America).
With the arrival of the PV544, a second version was added. For the first time, a 4-speed manual transmission was also available.
Under the bodywork, the PV544 was continuously updated. The most important change took place in 1961: Volvo installed the famous B18 engine under the hood and installed a 12-volt electrical system.
The Volvo PV544 became one of the most successful rally cars of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The Volvo we offer here is a 1962 model and is a Sport version equipped with the famous B18 engine with twin carburetors!
The car was restored by an enthusiast in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
What's striking when driving it is how direct and solid everything feels.
Don't expect a newly restored car; visually, the car already shows some signs of wear.
But it's a beautiful classic Volvo for the enthusiast!
