Description

This beautiful Volvo is not just a car – it’s a piece of automotive history that has already lived through nearly half a century and still has much to offer.

Why a 1977 Volvo is a true treasure

The year 1977 was special for the Swedish brand – it was the year Volvo celebrated its 50th anniversary. Founded in 1927 by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson in Gothenburg, the company had already made safety its mission half a century earlier. Their motto, “Cars are driven by people. Therefore, the guiding principle behind everything we make is, and must remain, safety” sounded revolutionary in the 1920s.

Why a Volvo from this era is an investment in history

The 1970s were Volvo’s golden age. Swedish engineers were introducing groundbreaking crash tests and innovative solutions that we now consider standard: reinforced structures, carefully designed crumple zones, and the first child safety systems. Their cars earned the reputation of being “bulletproof” thanks to their exceptionally solid construction. The 244 model embodies the Swedish philosophy of motoring – simplicity, functionality, and durability above all. The 240 series, to which this car belongs, became an icon of reliability.

The story of this particular car

Built in Volvo’s Gothenburg factory during that jubilee year, this specific example spent many years calmly driving on Swedish roads before arriving in Poland in 2017, where it continued to serve as a dependable travel companion. Between 2018 and 2019, the rear wheel arch panels and spare wheel well were replaced, and minor rust spots on the cowl were repaired. The body received a fresh coat of paint. Parts of the braking system were replaced, and several original Volvo accessories were added. All windows remain original, while the engine and suspension components are mechanically sound and required no restoration.

Technical specifications

  • Original B21A 2.1L engine, 100 HP – renowned for its indestructibility and ease of maintenance
  • 4-speed manual gearbox
  • Mileage: 43,000 km on the odometer (the odometer was replaced in Sweden; in my estimation, the true mileage is around 240,000 km – which for a Volvo is just a warm-up 😊
  • Bodywork in excellent condition after restoration, requiring no financial investment
  • Interior preserved in its original color scheme – authentic 1970s vintage
  • Original set of 4 steel rims included

Why I’m selling

After years of shared journeys, it’s time for this Swedish classic to find someone who will continue to cherish and care for this piece of Volvo history. In my garage, the Jubilee will soon be replaced by a 1973 Volvo 164.
