Description

The Porsche 996 Turbo is today one of the most compelling modern classics within the 911 range. For many years it was seen mainly as the “affordable” Turbo, but the market has since become far more selective. Enthusiasts understand that the 996 Turbo offers qualities later generations gradually lost: compact dimensions, direct mechanical feedback, relatively limited electronic filtering, and above all the legendary Mezger engine. For that reason, this model is now being rightfully rediscovered.

Under the rear lid sits the 3.6 litre twin turbo flat six, based on the engine architecture from Porsche’s GT1 program. Output is 420 hp and 560 Nm, paired with four wheel drive and, in this case, the highly desirable 6 speed manual gearbox. Exactly the specification collectors and drivers want today.

This particular example was delivered new in October 2000 in Switzerland, a market known for demanding owners and generally well maintained cars. Since 2012, the car has been located in Germany. Today it presents with just 83,000 km from new, complete with service book, German documents, and recent technical inspection.

In terms of colour combination, this is an especially attractive and less common specification. The car is finished in Lapisblau Metallic, one of the finest blue shades from Porsche’s palette of that era. Compared with the abundance of silver and black examples, this is exactly the sort of original colour now increasingly appreciated by the market. The interior is trimmed in blue raffled leather, a more luxurious perforated leather finish that offers both superior visual appeal and comfort over standard leather.

An important detail for the serious buyer is that the car remains entirely in its original first paint. That is rare today on a 996 Turbo. Many examples have received partial repainting, cosmetic corrections, or less careful repairs over the years.

The options list is also very well chosen. This example features an electric sunroof, Porsche Communication Management, sound package, CD changer, electrically adjustable seats, Turbo Look II wheels, and various comfort options that make this 996 Turbo a true grand tourer.

Worldwide production of the 996 Turbo remained relatively limited compared with regular Carrera models. Once less desirable specifications, higher mileage cars, and modified examples are filtered out, genuinely correct manual cars remain surprisingly scarce. That perfectly explains why today’s market draws a strong distinction between average cars and top tier examples.

In summary, this is a highly correct example: delivered new in Switzerland in October 2000, based in Germany since 2012, only 83,000 km, Mezger engine, manual gearbox, first paint, and finished in sought after Lapisblau Metallic with black raffled leather interior. A genuine and highly desirable Porsche 996 Turbo from the era when Porsche Turbo models still felt pure, compact, and uncompromising.
