The V6 Peugeot 504 coupé turns out to be the car you never knew you wanted and then very quickly becomes the car you cannot believe you ever lived without
Designed and built by Pininfarina they are classically beautiful with stunning lines and design cues garnering adoring looks from all those she encounters
Sat outside a regular haunt of mine in south west London I was amazed at the sheer numbers of people stopping to admire her, not just boring car enthusiasts like ourselves but laypeople too cannot resist but appreciate the 504 coupé
Naturally a good specification does help and the much sought after green over tan on our car here does work ever so well
She spent most of life in Switzerland with the original supplying dealers motif still adoring her boot lid. Thats F. Leunberger Garage Drei Linden Langenthal, sadly no longer operating
After a life in Switzerland she was shipped over to the UK in 2024 and first registered in July of that year
From the factory she is a 1977 model meaning she benefits from the S2 version of the jointly manufactured Peugeot, Renault & Volvo V6 engine producing a gentlemanly 142bhp
That engine being jointly manufactured by the three automakers has the added benefit of making parts easy to come by
Since coming to the UK she has covered a quite commendable 4000 kilometres, testament to her usability given she has sat in a stable with a few other rather desirable motorcars for the owner to choose from, garaged the whole time of course
The 3 speed ZF automatic gearbox has been completely overhauled recently and is operating so smoothly
The characteristic of the car suits an auto box quite perfectly, I will admit to initially having a reservation with regard to it when I was first presented the car but after my first drive in her I was soon won over and convinced its the right choice for the car
Famously French cars of this era are supremely comfortable and the 504 coupé only serves to further this reputation, she is beyond civilised behind the wheel and engenders a relaxed attitude whilst driving, with armchair like seats and ultra supple suspension & steering
