1927 Morris-MG Oxford Super Sport Special
Chassis Number: 193940
Registration Number: PT 9377
Presented here is a very special automobile indeed, a unique 1927 Morris-MG Oxford Super Sport Special. Designed, restored and built by previous owner Beverley Hicks, this Morris was constructed with inspirations taken from an MG 14/40 externally and an MG M-Type internally.
After Mr. Hicks found a rusty rolling chassis of a 1927 Morris Oxford in March 2001, he took it upon himself to build a one-off special. By October 2003, the car was ready for its first trial. With a beautifully constructed aluminium bonnet and scuttle, and a complementing rear fabric covered boat tail section which houses a stainless steel fuel tank and a surprisingly spacious luggage compartment, this Morris is truly something to behold.
The chassis of the Morris-MG Oxford Super Sport Special is painted in a vibrant red with matching wire wheels. The smooth 1.8 Litre engine has a Ricardo type cylinder head, a lightened flywheel, a dyno-driven magneto, and a Kenlow electric fan, all of which are driven through a Morris four speed gearbox coupled to a remote sourced from an MG P-Type. The engine has been completely rebuilt with bills to go with it & has covered few miles since.
The Morris-MG Oxford Super Sport’s interior is trimmed in red leather, with custom-made matching carpets, along with a handy double tonneau cover and hood.
This sturdy Morris has taken part in numerous competitions and trials, with many photographs, magazine cutouts and entrance forms accompanying the history file. Also included in the file are original design drawings, photographs of the restoration and construction, and circuit diagrams. A totally original copy of “The Morris Oxford & Cowley Car Manual” from 1927, and “Morris Bullnose & Flatnose 11.9 & 13.9 h.p. Power Units” by Peter J. Seymour come with the car.
With a flawless engine and gearbox, this muscular and VSCC-eligible Morris-MG Oxford Super Sport Special is ready for anything, whether it be a peaceful cruise around the country roads on the weekend, or tackling a sodden assault course on a rainy day in a forest somewhere!
