Building a car as though it were still the 1950s and then fitting it with a V8 sounds like an ambitious undertaking, but for Morgan, it worked exceptionally well.

The Plus 8 was introduced in 1968 and went on to become perhaps the model that firmly established Morgan on the map. The basic formula was familiar: a classically styled two-seat roadster with a long hood and bodywork that looked as though every modern development had been politely left outside the factory gates. Beneath that hood, however, there was no longer a modest four-cylinder engine. Instead, there was a lightweight Rover V8.

The Plus 8 was developed from the Plus 4, although the chassis had to be modified to accommodate the larger engine and the additional performance. The result was a car that looked thoroughly traditional, yet was exceptionally fast for its time. Not because Morgan had applied sophisticated aerodynamics, but because a lightweight car and a V8 simply proved to be an excellent combination.

This particular example dates from 1982, an especially appealing model year for the Plus 8. The Rover V8 was still equipped with carburetors and paired with a five-speed manual transmission. As a result, the Plus 8 drives quite differently from what its appearance might suggest. You may expect a charming classic roadster that prefers to amble gently along a country road. It can certainly do that. But press the accelerator farther, and it suddenly becomes clear that a very serious pace is possible.

The V8 responds immediately, the car weighs relatively little, and you sit low to the ground. That low seating position provides an abundance of driving sensation. Driving a Plus 8 therefore remains a genuinely special experience. This Morgan is finished in Indigo Blue, complemented by a black interior. It is a classic color combination that suits the design particularly well.

This Morgan has been repainted only once in the past and remains in neat, largely original condition. It is not a Morgan that has undergone a complete restoration, but a well-cared-for example with considerable charm. The most recent owner kept the car for no less than 26 years.

Driving this Morgan takes us back to a more analog era. A pure sports car with a magnificent soundtrack, abundant feedback, and a fantastic driving experience we simply cannot get enough of. This example has also been properly maintained, making every drive in this Morgan an absolute pleasure.

A 1982 Morgan Plus 8 finished in Indigo Blue with a black interior, equipped with carburetors and a five-speed manual transmission, and cherished by the same owner for 26 years. Classic British lines. A wonderful V8 up front. And a driving experience that still feels unlike anything else.
