Description

Originally launched at the 1953 Motor Show, the MG TF was greeted with mixed reactions from enthusiasts and journalists alike. To the Abingdon engineers, led by Cecil Cousins, it was a model that was sufficiently different from its predecessors and yet continued the traditional T-Series classic lines and the end result was very pleasing to the eye. Interior wise and in keeping with the external modifications, the cockpit layout was quite radically different to that of its predecessor and formed a comfortable and pleasant place to be. Individually adjustable seats were provided in place of the normal bench type seating and the facia panel was completely new with a welcome return to octagonal instrumentation. Often referred to as 'the last of the square riggers' the MG TF gained this title due to its very strong resemblance to the pre-war MG Midgets.

Originally registered on 18th November 1954, this MG TF has been cherished by the same owner for decades. They have enjoyed the car immensely although it has been used sparingly, it has though been to MG events at Silverstone, a round trip of around 100 miles. The TF has always been garaged, hence the delightful condition it presents in today. The Old English White paintwork is in good order as is the Racing Green interior. The registration number of BEO 20 is being retained by the vendor and a new age related one will be issued by the DVLA. The vendor has a photograph taken in 1980 when the car was at the MG factory in Abingdon. This quintessentially British sportscar is offered to auction with a V5C registration document, an owner's operation manual. A new Lucas battery has just been fitted, this very usable MG is ready to go and be enjoyed immediately. Consigned by Stewart Banks
