Description

The MGB was launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a coupe with 2+2 seating was added in 1965. The MGB was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction utilising a monocoque structure instead of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the MGA and MGT types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Wind-up windows were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction with a 0-60mph time of just over 11 seconds aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was certainly one of the MGB's strong points.

Originally supplied by University Motors Ltd. in London, and registered on 19th April 1972, this MGB has been comprehensively nut and bolt restored to a good standard and presents very well. A bare metal respray has been carried out with photographic evidence in the history file. The Glacier White coachwork is in very good order as is the black interior. This MGB sits well on wire wheels and has an aluminium bonnet. Mechanically it is a delight, with a Stage 2 Downton Engineering engine, which we are advised by the vendor, has recently been rebuilt. It is thought this is the only MGB Roadster with a Downton engine. The gearbox has been rebuilt, as has the suspension and brakes. Underneath the car is as clean as it is on top, this has clearly been a very well looked after example. Coming with a new exhaust, four new tyres, adjustable shock absorbers and a Sebring spoiler on the front, together with a history file. The engine runs very well with, to be expected, excellent oil pressure and we are advised this MGB drives with no known faults. The hood frame is in the car, although there is no hood cover on it, these are easily obtainable from various MG specialist. The odometer reads 52,077 miles however the previous MoT's within the file would indicate the correct mileage to be 152,077. These iconic, quintessentially British sportscars are a great introduction into classic car motoring. Consigned by Stewart Banks
