The car comes from the G. Hettlage family (department store chain).
The original vehicle registration document is available.
The vehicle has a German first registration (see document)!!!
I purchased the car in 1994 in Berlin with a total of 4 previous owners according to the document.
All restoration work was carried out at a Mercedes Benz workshop for classic cars called Karl Heinz Dellmann on Emmastraße in Düsseldorf. Mr Dellmann himself completed his apprenticeship at Mercedes on the Pagoda and therefore had a high level of knowledge about this type of vehicle.
The first restoration work was carried out in 1994 on the front axle, which was completely rebuilt.
The actual full restoration then took place between 1995 and 2000.
Almost all sheet metal parts (not aluminium parts) and some of the main beams were replaced (see also photos). The vehicle was completely rebuilt on an original straightening bench for this purpose. The cavities in all components were filled with approx. 6 litres of cavity sealant (Mike Sander).
The engine and transmission were completely dismantled and all parts were cleaned and, where necessary, replaced with new (original) parts. The engine was converted to unleaded fuel. The injection pump was depressurised and adjusted. The radiator, tank and rear axle were cleaned and fitted with new parts. The wiring harness and electrical systems were replaced and/or cleaned. Many chrome parts were partially replaced or re-chromed. Other engine parts, screws, pipes, etc. were yellow zinc-plated. The interior was replaced with grey leather, and the soft top (Sonnenland) was also replaced with a black one.
Almost all rubber parts (95%) were replaced. The car was fitted with whitewall tyres. The brake system was completely renewed. The brake booster was renewed in 2025 with an original part. The paintwork was carried out in colour 050 at the Bundesmann workshop in Düsseldorf.
Engine mileage after overhaul 56,000 km, vehicle has a 4-speed gearbox. All parts are in original condition. Two hardtops (one disassembled and one assembled) are included in the purchase price. Becker México radio/cassette player in restored condition by Königs Ratingen.
Last service/inspection was carried out in September 2025.
The vehicle is classified as a grade 2 (not in new condition).
Based on current prices, such a restoration would cost approximately £150,000 including spare parts.
Purchase receipts, receipts for spare parts and other car parts are partially available.
Various spare parts can be purchased separately (such as ‘red’ rear lights, wiper linkage, chrome parts, screws, fuel pump, seals, etc.).
If you are looking for a 60-year-old car that has been extensively rebuilt, you have come to the right place.
The car has always been kept in a heated garage and has been lovingly driven/used/maintained over the 31 years of ownership.
An honest car offered for sale privately at a fair price.
