Description

This 280 SE belongs to the first series of the W 126 model range, which was produced by Daimler-Benz AG between 1979 and 1985. The W 126 series is so far the most successful and longest-produced S-Class from Sindelfingen. From 1981, the W 126 was supplied as the first production vehicle with a driver airbag. In addition, these models were the first vehicles worldwide to be prepared for a displaced frontal impact, the so-called "offset crash". Instead of bumpers, the W 126 models were fitted with plastic-covered bumpers that are seamlessly integrated. The special equipment of this 1983 sedan includes, among other things, a headlamp flasher installed for Portugal, a windscreen and washer-fluid heater, an electric exterior mirror on the right-hand side, a Becker Europa radio and an automatic aerial. In addition, a flag standard holder was ordered for government service.

Colour Lapis Blue (932 U). The vehicle has already been repainted; the paintwork is in good overall condition and shows only minor signs of use. The lower silver trim panels have all been repainted. The chrome on the front and rear bumpers, radiator grille and all trim elements is in good condition considering its age. The sedan has original 15-inch Mercedes-Benz "Gullideckel" aluminium wheels, which have been blasted and recoated. The 280 SE sits on Firestone Firehawk summer tyres measuring 225/60 R15 at the front and rear. The tyres date from 2015 and have been used for approximately 500 km since then.

The entire interior is in a very well-maintained and original condition. The interior is finished in original Galaxy Blue (052 A). The fabric on the front seats and rear bench is in very good condition. Both door panels and the dashboard are also upholstered in blue, with brown wood trim elements, and are likewise in excellent condition. The instruments function properly. The radio is an original radio with CD drive from the Mercedes R 129 model series, installed at a later date.  The speedometer shows a mileage of 109,909 km. The likewise blue carpeting has been preserved in its original form and is in fantastic condition.

According to the Vedoc records, the vehicle left the MB plant in Sindelfingen on 13.12.1983. The W126 was maintained as a state limousine from 1986 to 1990 and was subsequently housed in the military museum in Braga/Portugal.  The vehicle was purchased by the current owner at the Auktionata auction in Berlin in 2015.  A number of technical repairs were subsequently carried out, with all receipts available; for example, the drive shafts, brakes, stabiliser and all tie-rod ends were replaced, the springs were removed, blasted and coated, a new exhaust silencer was installed, and new tyres were fitted. The vehicle is rust-free because it was based almost exclusively in sunny Portugal; since then, it has been driven very little in Germany and never in the rain. The  W126 has received a new TÜV/ASU inspection and § 23 classic-car registration. The manual transmission, which was often installed in state limousines because it allows for faster reactions, deserves special mention. The vehicle has no outstanding repair work and offers pure driving pleasure, equipped with the indestructible 6-cylinder M110 engine. We are selling the vehicle on behalf of the customer.
