The Lancia Fulvia is regarded as one of the most technically distinctive mid-size coupés of its era. Designed under the direction of Antonio Fessia, its narrow-angle V4 engine, front-wheel drive and low centre of gravity resulted in exceptional road holding and a uniquely balanced driving experience. Especially in Coupé form, the Fulvia quickly gained a loyal following among enthusiastic drivers and achieved notable rally success, culminating in the World Rally Championship title of 1972.
The second series introduced subtle improvements in build quality and everyday usability without compromising the car’s distinctive technical concept. The designation “Montecarlo” appears in period literature and enthusiast circles to describe particularly sporting configurations, but it was never officially defined by Lancia as a separate production variant and should therefore be understood in its historical context.
The body was completely dismantled and comprehensively restored. Floor panels, sill sections and numerous body areas were renewed using professionally welded sheet metal repairs. The wings were reconstructed in steel, while the aluminium doors and bonnets were retained due to their sound condition. Previously modified seat mounts were also rebuilt to original specification. Today, the exterior presents itself as coherent and carefully finished, without obvious compromises.
The interior was fully refurbished. The front seats were reupholstered, while the rear bench was completely rebuilt. Particular emphasis was placed on originality: door panels from a later series were deliberately replaced with correct second-series components. Instruments and dashboard were restored and now present an authentic appearance.
The engine was comprehensively rebuilt, including re-machining of the cylinder bores, new pistons and rings, valves and valve springs, camshafts, main and connecting rod bearings, timing chain, carburettors and numerous ancillary components. The braking system and suspension were also fully renewed, including master cylinder, calipers, discs and pads. The electrical system was completely revised using original wiring diagrams, with correct cable gauges and colour coding.
The current owner discovered the car in March 2014 through an online advertisement and purchased it after a personal inspection in Bergamo. The subsequent 160-kilometre drive home marked the beginning of a long-term restoration project that was initially intended to be conservative but ultimately developed into a full nut-and-bolt rebuild once the true condition became apparent. This process allowed the owner to gain an intimate understanding of every single component of the car.
The restoration was carried out over several years and closely overseen by the owner. A video documents the rebuild process. According to the owner, documentation supporting the work performed is available. No further details regarding the current service status have been provided.
