Description

Introduced at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Espada revolutionized the exotic car market as the world’s first true four-seater supercar. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, this grand tourer (GT) combined the jaw-dropping, low-slung styling of a spacesuit-era coupe with genuine cabin space for four adults and their luggage. Powered by Lamborghini’s legendary 4.0-liter V12 engine, the Espada was as fast as it was unique, becoming the brand's best-selling model of its era and proving that high-end performance didn't require sacrificing luxury or practicality.

Exterior: The exterior of this 1970 Lamborghini Espada S2 is simply stunning. The iconic lines of the Bertone-designed body are beautifully enhanced by the Grey Metallic finish. It retains those classic, aggressive proportions, low, long, and wide. Complemented by Miura-style wheels and the signature three-eared knock-off spinners.

While the car underwent a full restoration in the 90s, it was repainted again approximately 20 years ago. The finish remains excellent, with consistent panel gaps and straight bodywork. A few minor marks have emerged over the last two decades, though nothing unusual given the time frame. The stainless steel bumpers and chrome trim remain in top condition, and the car sits correctly on a set of Michelin XWX tires.

Interior: The Espada's cabin is truly a masterpiece of 1970s design. Widely regarded as the world’s first true four-seater supercar, every detail is a sight to behold. The interior was fully reupholstered in beautiful beige leather during the 1990s restoration, a stunning combination against the grey exterior.

The craftsmanship of the restoration is evident throughout the interior especially looking at the finishing of the leather door cards and dashboard. The woodwork was upgraded to a high-quality walnut. Today, the leather has developed a lovely, light patina. Both the carpets and headliner remain in great condition. From the distinct gauge cluster to the unique levers for the rear windows, the cabin is an ergonomic work of art. As a dedicated GT, it offers comfort for four adults and a generous trunk. The air conditioning is also fully functional, making it a perfect companion for summer touring.

Engine & Mechanics: Mechanically restored in the 90s and maintained ever since, this Espada is in peak performing health. Most recently, the cylinder heads were rebuilt (including planed cylinder heads, new valves, and valve seats). The ignition system has been modernized with electronic ignition and new components for improved reliability.

The car runs and sounds magnificent. It is a vintage exotic you can actually drive with confidence; the cabin remains quiet at speed, and the handling is planted. Navigating the distinct gates of the 5-speed manual transmission while hearing the glorious V12 soundtrack is a pure bliss.

History & Documentation: This Espada was delivered to its first owner in Rome, Italy, in 1970. It remained in Italy until 1976, when it was imported to southern Sweden. Following a few owners, it underwent its comprehensive restoration in the 1990s.

The car has been featured in several automotive magazines, receiving high praise for its design and condition. It is accompanied by:

  • A folder of recent service records

  • A clear ownership history

  • MOT (inspection) papers dating back to 1982

  • The original Italian registration documents

  • The toolkit, spare wheel, and jack
