Description

This beautiful Jaguar XK140 FHC is one of the rarer home market UK RHD examples. 562 BEH retains its original factory colour of Pearl Grey, original registration mark and is a matching numbers car retaining its original factory supplied engine. The XK was manufactured on the 30th October 1956, was distributed by C.H Truman in Nottingham and supplied new by Byatts of Fenton in Stoke on Trent. 562 BEH was purchased new by the Director of Blythe Colour Works Ltd, W R Wildblood, a company producing colour for the pottery industry.

The XK was subject of a major restoration many years ago, but over the past eight years has had over £40,000 spent taking the car to an incredibly high standard. Structurally exceptional with a stunning straight bodyshell years on since rebuild, the XK was first of all in 2016 improved with a new correct wool headlining, re-furbished woodwork, re-conditioned steering wheel, engine bay detailing and paintwork but it was between 2020 and 2021 where the majority of expense came in with a full engine rebuild, five speed gearbox conversion (original Moss gearbox with the car), new stainless steel exhaust system, new Dynalite, Spax shock absorbers, ball joints, rear wheel cylinders and new master cylinder.

Very few miles have been covered since the major engine rebuild that included stripping the block right down ahead of a crankshaft re-grind, new pistons, main and big end bearings. Further to that the XK had a rear crankshaft seal conversion, new timing chains and guides, rebuilt water pump, rebuild cylinder head, all new gaskets, new clutch along with many other new parts. The engine was then mated to the new five speed gearbox and beautifully detailed and then re-fitted to the nicely prepared engine bay. The carbs were then rebuilt and the car set up ahead of road testing

As result of the recent works the XK140 is an exceptional driving car with a fabulous ‘fresh' engine offering impressive performance and excellent oil pressure. The five-speed gearbox is a delight and improves drivability, particularly for long distance touring. Having been subject of some light cosmetic work in 2016, the car presents as a much more recent rebuild with a beautiful paint finish, impressive chrome and the bodywork is truly outstanding. The upholstery is delightful with lovely deep Red leather, excellent headlining, gleaming woodwork and lovely clean carpets, door cards and working switch gear. The boot compartment is sharply presented like the engine bay, and the car is ready to use and enjoy. The most recent owner has had the XK for around two years and had electric power assisted steering fitted.

562 BEH has lovely level of detail with correct 'Ace' peaked number plates, XK140 correct style jack, tool roll and comes with a detailed history covering all recent works. With UK matching numbers 1950's and 1960's Jaguars in high demand, finding correct, top class driving examples is becoming increasingly difficult.
