Standing before this Hispano Suiza immediately makes one thing clear: this is an automobile from the absolute pinnacle of the nineteen thirties. The J12 represented the flagship of the marque and was created for clients for whom price was never a determining factor. The chassis alone required an extraordinary investment, after which renowned coachbuilders were given complete freedom to create a fully individual automobile. This particular example received an open coachwork by D’Ieteren Frères, executed with beautifully balanced proportions.

Of the original J12 models fitted with open coachwork, only nine examples are known to exist today. This specific car further distinguishes itself through its unique configuration, making it quite literally a one of a kind presence within the already exclusive J12 universe.

At the heart of the car lies the remarkable 9.4 liter Hispano Suiza V12 engine. A power unit celebrated in its era for effortless performance and exceptional smoothness, constructed according to a square configuration in which bore and stroke share identical dimensions. The automobile was comprehensively restored in the past by marque specialists, during which numerous technical components were newly manufactured. Today the car presents beautifully and with the level of care appropriate for an automobile of this stature.

The chassis specification adds another fascinating aspect. Of the four available wheelbase variants, this example was built on the second shortest version, while the longer chassis were typically reserved for large limousine bodies. The result is a Hispano that experts regard as exceptionally well balanced. The radiator grille is crowned by the unmistakable stork mascot designed by François Bazin, a defining symbol inseparably linked to Hispano Suiza.

During the Second World War this Hispano Suiza was carefully concealed for preservation, after which it returned to active use in the post war years. In later decades the automobile formed part of several distinguished international collections focused on rare and individually styled motor cars. In 1994 the car received significant recognition at the Pebble Beach Concours d Elegance, where it was awarded the Alec Ulmann Trophy. This distinction further confirms both its historical importance and outstanding presentation. The exterior and interior remain in fine condition with beautifully preserved and correct details throughout.

The generous dimensions provide exceptional comfort for all occupants. Rear passengers benefit from spacious seating and a separate windscreen, a solution originally developed to enhance long distance travel comfort.

Automobiles of this caliber rarely appear on the market. Not due to speculation, but simply because each example tends to remain within established collections. This Hispano Suiza is no exception and stands as a truly unique automobile defined by its breathtaking coachwork.

You are warmly invited to view this Hispano Suiza by appointment. Since 1975 Gallery Aaldering has been a family owned business with international experience in presenting exceptional and historically significant automobiles. Worldwide delivery and export can of course be arranged.
