1973 | FIAT 500 L
Description
In 1957, the first 500 Nuova rolled off the assembly line in Turin. This 500 was the successor to the equally legendary Fiat 500 "Topolino," which was produced from 1936 to 1955.
Like the Topolino, the 500 was designed by Dante Giacosa, a man who never lost sight of design in his designs.
During the 18 years of production, the 500 never lost its appeal, and even today, it remains a beloved classic.
The first model was the Nuova 500, also known as the "N." This 500 was kept "barebones" to avoid competing too much with the Fiat 600. It had, for example, no heating, no rear seat, and no opening side windows in the doors. Furthermore, this 500 had a sunroof extending all the way to the tailgate and a completely different thermostat housing near the engine. The 500 D was introduced in 1960. This version still had the front-opening doors, the "cross-eyed" design, but was more luxuriously equipped, and the engine power was slightly increased. Furthermore, the "D" lacked the ventilation slots on the front fender, and the "cat's eyes," the large turn signals, disappeared from the front fenders.
In 1965, the 500 F was introduced. This version had standard-opening doors, a higher windshield, narrower sills, and a different fuel tank. The engine was also modified again. The F had a white steering wheel and a white odometer that indicated 120 km/h (75 mph).
Alongside the F, the Fiat 500 L was introduced from 1968 to 1972. This model was a more luxurious version of the F and was therefore equipped with several refinements, such as decorative bumper brackets, chrome window seals, more luxurious upholstery, and a padded dashboard with a wider speedometer housing that even included a fuel gauge.
The example offered here was first registered in 1973. In 1988, this little Italian moved to the Netherlands and has been cherished by enthusiasts ever since.
