Description

If Romans do it their own way, this 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB is a testament to that: delivered new to Motor s.p.a in Rome in Nero over Beige, this 1977 dry sump 308 GTB certainly stands out amongst the many Rosso Corsa 308s produced.

The Ferrari 308 GTB was introduced in 1975 as a successor to the Dino 246 GT and marked a significant evolution in the mid-engined V8 lineage. The 308 GTB was initially produced with a fiberglass ‘vetroresina’ body, making it the first production Ferrari to use this lightweight material. By mid-1977, Ferrari transitioned to steel body panels, but the earlier dry sump lubrication system remained a hallmark of European-spec cars, enhancing performance and reliability during spirited driving.

Under the hood, the 308 GTB housed a 2.9-liter (2927cc) V8 engine, mounted transversely, and paired with four Weber 40DCNF carburettors, producing 255 horsepower at 7700 rpm. The dry sump lubrication, a setup borrowed from Ferrari’s racing experience, prevented oil starvation during high-speed cornering and allowed for a lower engine placement, improving the car’s centre of gravity.

Performance was impressive for its era: the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 6.5 seconds, with a top speed of approximately 250 km/h. Coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox and a taut chassis, the 308 GTB offers a visceral and engaging driving experience.

This 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB is in its original colour of Black over Beige leather, a very elegant combination that sets it apart. A Ferrari Classiche Certifcate confirms delivery date of September 1977 and original colour Nero (black) and Beige leather. Delivered to Motor s.p.a. in Rome. The 308 GTB was delivered with air conditioning as an optional extra (the AC is currently not mounted but comes with the car).

Early history is not known but eventually the Ferrari found its way to California where it resided with one owner, before returning to Europe again in 2008.

Lots of invoices for work and services carried out in the 2000s and 2010s accompany the car. Most recent work include a complete belt change, oil and service in the autumn of 2024. Today the 308 GTB has travelled just over 50.000kms, 14.000km of those since 2008

The Ferrari 308 GTB is in good condition throughout, unmolested and well-kept with a slight patina as you would expect from an unrestored, nearly fifty-year old car.

Today, the dry sump 308 GTB has become highly regarded by enthusiasts for its purity, mechanical feedback, and connection to Ferrari’s racing heritage and this 308 GTB is no exception. It starts on the button and delivers precise and sharp handling coupled with instant speed and not least, an exhaust note to match it.

The Ferrari 308 GTB is currently registered on Danish (EU) registration documents and has older German + US registration documents.
