Description
Offered here is a remarkable 1938 Delage GP Special with a fascinating provenance and successful competition history.
Originally built in England during the late 1970s by David Fairley, the car was created for participation in VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club) events. The starting point was a Delage 6. 70 Sports Limousine, which was carefully transformed into a racing machine inspired by the celebrated Delage ERA racer developed to perfection by Patrick Lindsay.
In 1997, the GP Special passed to noted enthusiast Rod King, who retained the car until 2014 and campaigned it with considerable success at numerous VSCC race meetings. Thereafter, it was sold to Germany, where it has continued to be actively used in historic motorsport. Under current ownership, the car has been a regular and welcome entrant at prestigious events such as the Nürburgring Classic, Solitude Revival, Jochpass Memorial, and the Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
Mechanically, the car has benefitted from continuous development and fastidious care. It has been regularly serviced and maintained by a Munich-based specialist workshop renowned for its expertise with British classics. A full file of invoices accompanies the car.
Power comes from a 2. 5-litre six-cylinder Jaguar SS100 engine, mated to a 4-speed Moss gearbox and enhanced with a Marshall Roots-type supercharger and 2. 5-inch SU carburetor. Importantly, the car is road registered in Germany, allowing both road use and entry into a wide range of historic racing and rally events.
Ready to drive and eminently usable, this Delage GP Special combines evocative pre-war style with thrilling performance, a proven competition record, and the rare advantage of road registration. A superb opportunity for the discerning collector of historic racing machinery.
