Brand & Model History:

The BMW 327 was introduced in 1937 as a luxury sports car, based on the chassis of the BMW 326, which was popular at the time as a mid-size sedan. The 327 was available as both a coupe and convertible, and was distinguished by its sleek, elegant design, inspired by the famous aerodynamic lines of the era. It was a masterpiece of streamlined form, combining stylish curves with sporty proportions. The curved body and long hood gave it a timeless aesthetic, still regarded today as a symbol of classic elegance. The 327 was positioned as a high-end vehicle aimed at wealthy customers seeking both sporty performance and luxurious comfort.

History & Condition:

The first owner of this BMW 327 was a German of Jewish descent named Stein, who purchased the car from the BMW dealer in Cologne on February 14, 1940. For understandable reasons, he emigrated to Illinois, USA, in the spring of that year. Mr. Stein kept the car for about 10 years before selling it to a German-American in Oklahoma. Due to a lack of spare parts, the BMW was no longer used from 1978 onward. The resulting damage made it unroadworthy, and in 1989 the BMW was sold to a buyer in Düsseldorf, Germany. Over a period of 5 years, the 327 was completely restored and rebuilt. During the restoration, the engine was replaced with an identical engine from the 326 series and overhauled. The electronics were also updated to contemporary standards. It wasn’t until 1995 that the vehicle was registered and driven by its then-owner. In the spring of 2008, the coupe changed hands for the last time. The BMW is now excellently documented, with the entire history written from the perspective of the 3rd owner, along with all invoices, documents, and receipts, as well as restoration photos and several appraisals.

Market Position & Prices:

The BMW 327 was positioned as a luxurious and sporty vehicle, competing against rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz 170 V and other German and European luxury cars. Due to its sporty genes, elegant design, and advanced engineering, the 327 was a sought-after model among both private customers and race drivers. Today, the BMW 327 is considered one of the most beautiful and desirable pre-war BMW cars. Well-maintained vehicles can fetch high prices at auctions, often ranging from €150,000 to €200,000, depending on condition and history.

Summary:

The BMW 327 was introduced in 1937 as a luxury sports car, based on the chassis of the BMW 326.
