Description

BMW’s salvation in the early 1960s came in the form of a completely new model series: in 1961, a four-door mid-range saloon car was launched on the market, the ‘New Class’. From 1966, the series was supplemented by a smaller two-door model, the BMW 1600-2. It quickly became a bestseller because its many engine variants perfectly matched public taste. The accompanying snappy BMW 1600 Cabriolet, developed and produced by Stuttgart-based coachbuilder Baur, was on display at the 1967 IAA in Frankfurt. Its harmonious design without a distracting roll bar was a hit. But at a price of DM 12,000, the buyer base was limited. Only 1,938 units were built.

Our BMW 1600 Cabriolet was first registered in Bavaria in April 1969 and remained in the same family until 1997! The classic convertible has clocked up around 122,000 km and is original. Registered in Germany, it is now waiting for its next ride, with the top down, of course.
