Description

There are classic cars that spend their lives beneath a tailor-made dust cover, emerging three times a year when the temperature is precisely 22°C and the humidity a reassuring 47%.

This is not one of them.

As the season draws to a close, I am offering my 1967 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8 for sale – one of the last of the great Healeys and, in many ways, the glorious finale of the series: more power, wind-up windows, a hood that actually does its job, and one of the finest interiors ever to leave Abingdon. Not to mention that magnificent dashboard, from an age when switches were still switches rather than submenus.

Naturally finished in British Racing Green, with black Connolly leather, chrome wire wheels and overdrive. The only way it could be more British would be to have Prince Harry behind the wheel…

The Perfect Travelling Companion

This Healey has enjoyed trips over the Grossglockner, to Lake Garda, Liguria and the French Riviera, proving along the way why these cars earned their reputation as great British grand tourers.

Hood down, straight-six fired up, a moment to savour that breathtaking exhaust note – and off you go.

The car has therefore been fitted with a number of sensible, largely invisible improvements designed to make longer journeys more enjoyable and the mechanical side of things easier to monitor:

* 123-Ignition – programmable electronic ignition

* AFR gauge for monitoring the air-fuel mixture

* High-quality, period-style radio with Bluetooth, discreetly installed subwoofer and concealed aerial

* Luggage rack, fitted or removed in less than a minute

The important thing is that none of these improvements has altered the character of the car. Anything that was upgraded was intended to improve the driving experience – not spoil the appearance.

Naturally, all the corresponding original parts have been retained, allowing the modifications to be reversed at any time.

The Boot Is Good for More Than Luggage

The original spare wheel and its mounting are, of course, included.

Personally, I have usually left the spare at home and taken a tyre repair kit instead. The reason becomes obvious in the photographs: the open boot of a Healey makes an excellent seat, picnic table or even champagne bar.

This particular feature may not have appeared in the original sales brochure. It works splendidly nonetheless.

Condition

The car is in exceptionally beautiful, well-maintained condition, without being so immaculate that one is afraid to use it. It has covered miles and bears only the slightest traces of a life properly enjoyed.

And that is exactly how it should continue.

An independent valuation report dated July 2025 assessed the car at €72,990, with a condition rating of 1− on the German classic-car grading scale.

Personally, I would describe it as a very good 2+: not a museum exhibit freshly wheeled into the daylight, but a truly beautiful Healey that you can start in the morning, take on a proper journey and park up again in the evening, a few hundred miles later, with a broad smile on your face.

The Sonnenland soft top is, naturally, fully functional. After all, British weather should hardly be a reason to leave a British car in the garage.

Why Am I Selling?

Not because I have fallen out of love with the Healey. Quite the opposite!

But every now and then, one realises that there are still other cars one simply has to own at least once.

And since garages, regrettably, are subject to certain physical limitations, it is time for someone else to enjoy a few wonderful adventures with this one.

And Why an “Autumn Special”?

Quite simply: the season is drawing to a close.

The 2025 valuation places the car’s value at €72,990. For the end of the season, I am offering the Healey at €62,990 – almost exactly €10,000 below its appraised value.

Not because the car has suddenly become €10,000 less desirable, but because autumn is traditionally the time when people start thinking more about winter tyres and firewood than open-top British sports cars.

Viewings are very welcome, as are test drives for genuinely interested buyers.

Videos happily provided by email!

And yes, the champagne is included! After all, we shall need to test that picnic table properly – and raise a glass to an excellent decision…

Deutsch:
