The 1971 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda Tribute sits at the top of the classic American muscle hierarchy. Built in very limited numbers, original Hemi ’Cuda convertibles are among the most coveted Mopars ever produced, combining Chrysler’s legendary 426 HEMI performance heritage with the sharp, distinctive E-body styling that defined early ’70s muscle.
This car is a 1971 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda Convertible Tribute, professionally created from a 1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe. It has been converted to closely resemble the look and character of a ’71 Hemi ’Cuda Convertible, with particular attention to its drivetrain and performance.
At its core is a hand-built 511 cubic inch HEMI V8 by John Arousa, a well-regarded American engine builder known for his work on high-performance Chrysler HEMI V8s, especially in drag and pro-touring applications. The engine is based on the classic hemispherical combustion chamber concept and is assembled with a focus on both output and durability.
The engine features a 10.5:1 compression ratio, twin four-barrel down-draft carburetors, and large 70 mm valves, delivering strong, reliable performance with a distinctly mechanical, old-school character.Performance figures underline the capability of this setup:
- 0–100 km/h: 4.2 seconds
- 0–160 km/h: 9.8 seconds
- 0–200 km/h: 15.0 seconds
- Power: 490 hp @ 5500 rpm
- Torque: 690 Nm @ 4000 rpm
- Redline: 7000 rpm
The drivetrain and chassis are configured to match the engine’s output with usable, road-focused performance rather than show alone.
