2015 Land Rover Defender 110 'Gun Bus'
The Land Rover Defender was launched in 1948 and, incredibly, production only finished in January 2016 after a continuous run of 67 years. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1983 vehicles from the Series III Land Rover. A full-length bonnet, revised grille, plus the fitting of wheel arch extensions to cover wider-track axles are the most noticeable changes. Internally, coil springs offered a more comfortable ride and a permanent four-wheel drive system derived from the Range Rover featuring a two-speed transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential. A modernised interior and a new series of progressively more powerful and modern engine characterised things under the skin. In August 2011, Land Rover announced an update of the Defender for the 2012 model year. By this time, Land Rover publicly acknowledged that it was working on a project to produce an all-new replacement for the Defender. Then in line for the 2012 models was the installation of a different engine Ford decided, due to cost reasons, not to modify the engine introduced in 2007 and so the engine was replaced with the ZSD-422 engine, essentially a 2.2 litre variant of the same engine.
First registered in March 2015, this late model 110 HCPU Defender has benefitted from substantial upgrades. Showing a mere 60,200 miles, the engine was replaced with a new unit from Stratstone Land Rover and has covered approximately 20,000 miles since its installation. The body has been repainted to a high standard in an attractive Pastel Green with black wheels and trim. This Defender boasts a full LED light upgrade, general grabber tyres, tinted windows, sides steps and a rear-view camera that's visible on the stereo. The cab has been treated to a heated front screen, heated wing mirrors, heated seats, DAB/GPS/Wi-Fi (enabled), Bluetooth telephone connectivity, a 300w compact sub-woofer, sound proofing, carpet lining, attractive leather and tartan seats as well as an anti-theft clutch pin and Defender tracker. The rear bed has been decked out with English Oak that has been sealed for protection from the elements and is covered with a new black canvas hood. The rear bed is also fitted with bespoke benches, 12v and USB outlets. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this Defender has been tastefully upgraded with practicality and usability in mind. The vehicle sadly failed its MoT today, (Friday 6th March), however the failures were relatively minor. These will be repaired at the vendor's expense post auction:
-Rear fog lamp not working
-Track rod end ball joint cover insecure so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt Nearside Front
-Track rod end ball joint cover insecure so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt Offside Front
-Headlamp aim projected beam image incorrect Nearside
-Headlamp aim projected beam image incorrect Offside
There was also an advisory that the Nearside front drive shaft seal is leaking excessive grease
