Lusso No. 1 – The very first Ferrari 250 GT/L Lusso ever produced Delivered new as a competition car to its first owner One of only three known racing Lusso in period Matching numbers Ferrari Classiche Certified

Chassis 4213GT left the factory in November 1962 for Carrozzeria Scaglietti and was delivered in January 1963 as Ferrari’s very first production Lusso. 4213GT is one of only three known examples that were raced in period. The car was delivered new through Garage Francorchamps SA in Brussels, the famous Ferrari dealership of Jacques Swaters.

The first owner was Belgian gentleman racer Leon Dernier, known by his alias “Elde”, who frequently raced Ferraris. He had ordered a 250 GTO, but as the factory could not deliver it in time, they supplied him with the first-ever Lusso in competition specification. Elde entered the car in several races, including a 1963 event at Spa-Francorchamps, the Cote de Fleron hillclimb (3rd in GT class), and the Cote de la Roche hillclimb where he secured 1st place in class. His final event was at the Cote de Bomeree hillclimb, finishing 3rd in the GT category once again.

In 1965, the car was exported to the USA. After many years off the racetrack, it returned to historic racing in 2001 with David Cunningham. In 2002, it was sold to Germany and participated in various Ferrari events and the Oldtimer Grand Prix with J. Pyritz and M. Wilms.

In 2004, 4213GT was purchased by Heinrich Kampfer, a Ferrari enthusiast and seasoned racer with over thirty years of motorsport experience. He restored the car to the latest FIA regulations and Ferrari Shell Historic Challenge standards, earning Ferrari Classiche certification. The mechanical restoration, including the engine, gearbox, rear axle, and brakes, was entrusted to Marcel Wettstein of Zurich, one of Switzerland’s top specialists in vintage Ferrari and Maserati racing cars. Every mechanical element was overhauled, and the car was equipped with a roll bar, racing seats, fuel cell, and fire system. Kampfer raced the car in several historic events.

In 2008, the car was sold by RM Auctions for $1.7 million to Peter Giddings, who raced it extensively over the next four years at events such as the Monterey Historics, Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca, and the Cavallino Classic Competition in Palm Beach.

In 2016, the Lusso returned to Europe and was reacquired by one of its former owners, M. Wilms. In 2020, the car was sold to German historic racer and Ferrari collector Christopher Stahl. Britec Motorsports carried out a mechanical restoration, and a second competition engine built to GTO specifications was prepared by marque expert Piet Roelofs. The car was raced by Chris Stahl and Nick Padmore at the Goodwood Members Meeting 2023 and Goodwood Revival 2022 and 2023. In the prestigious Lavant Cup, starting from the back of the grid, the Lusso impressively finished 7th overall, racing against icons like the 250 GTO, 250 LM, and 250 SWB—proving itself as a true contender in historic motorsport.

This car is rare and unique—a guaranteed ticket to the world’s most prestigious events and a regular participant at Goodwood!
