Before the Second World War, a Bentley consisted of a chassis and engine with accessories. The whole was transported to a coachbuilder who then added a coach to the specific wishes of the customers. After WWII, the factory offered a complete car. It was still possible to have the chassis with engine delivered to a coachbuilder, but it was also possible to have a 'standard saloon' built there by the factory. The first model to be offered in this way was the Bentley Mk VI (pronounced “mark six”). H.J. Mulliner was one of the many coachbuilders who also offered bodies on the Bentley Mk VI chassis. In 1950, the coachbuilder decided to design an aluminum bodywork that was still manufactured by hand at that time. This elegant, streamlined body was called the 'lightweight' because of the reduced weight compared to the steel bodies. This made the car lighter and therefore faster.

The Bentley Mk VI with chassis number B355GT was the prototype of the very successful H.J. Mulliner 'lightweight' models and is historically a car of great importance. In the beginning, the car was painted gray and was used for demonstration purposes. H.J. Mulliner exhibited this first lightweight prototype at the October 1950 Earls Court Motor Show. In September 1951 it was sold to John N.S. Young. The Bentley had English owners until the year 2000, after which it was imported to the Netherlands.
Until the Mk VI was succeeded by the Bentley R-Type in 1952, H.J. Mulliner built 41 Mk VI lightweights, despite the car being 40% more expensive than the standard saloon. As a classic, it has become a much sought-after model.

The Bentley Mk VI H.J. Mulliner 'lightweight' offered by Classic Park is a right-hand drive car in the colors dark blue and gray. The interior features gray leather. The car has the original 4257 cc six-cylinder in-line engine. The Bentley is in good condition, but has room for some optical and technical improvements.
