1979 | Volkswagen Super Beetle

The VW 1303, also known as the Super Beetle, was an upgraded and modernized version of the classic VW Beetle produced from 1970 to 1975 in Saloon form, and until early 1980 as Convertible. It featured major engineering changes, including a MacPherson strut front suspension, a curved windshield, a redesigned dashboard, and improved brakes which resulted in better handling The 1303 also had more front boot space and enhanced safety compared to its predecessors. The Super Beetle was powered by a 1.6L engine and was one of the final versions of the Beetle.

The 1979 model we are offering for sale is made in one of the last production months at Karmann in Osnabrück. It was exported to America and has the Bosch K-jetronic fuel injection from new which makes it a very easy classic car to live with. It starts on the button and offers rather good performance compared with older Beetles (and that is why they called it the Super Beetle...). It came to Belgium in 1996 and had two owners since. The car is in remarkable and fantastic original condtion - apart from a very professionally done repaint and a new hood it is completely as it left the factory. The last owner - a very experienced and retired Volkswagen mechanic - kept the Beetle in fantastic condition with respect for the originality of the car.

Driving this Beetle is great fun. The car is very comfortable and pleasant to drive. The convertible top is in new condition and driving with the roof down adds an extra thrill with that typical boxer engine sound in the background. The seats are comfortable and there is enough room for four adults. The brakes and road holding are good and cannot be compared to earlier Beetle models. The colour combination is classic and suits the car well, and you will only get positive reactions and thumbs-up when you are on the road.

A (Super) Beetle Convertible is a very nice car to enter the world of classic cars. Relatively affordable and easy to work on, and what's more, all parts are still available. This is one of the best examples on the market and a guarantee for 100% driving pleasure.
